Update: Arrest Made Weeks After Fatal Atlanta-Area Crash That Killed Twerking Woman Amiya Cunningham In Viral Video

News - Sun, 05/18/2025 - 04:16

Nearly three weeks after initially ruling out foul play, Forest Park police have arrested a woman in connection with the crash that killed 25-year-old Amiya Cunningham at the end of April.

Alexandria Larkin was taken into custody and charged with first-degree vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident, marking a significant shift in the investigation’s trajectory.

The fatal incident occurred late on April 26 at the intersection of Forest Parkway and Frontage Road in Forest Park, Georgia. Cunningham, who was out with friends, was struck by a vehicle while dancing in the street, a moment captured on video and widely circulated online. First responders arrived quickly, but Cunningham later died at Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital.

Initially, Forest Park police stated there was no evidence of malice, negligence, or foul play. Detectives reviewed surveillance footage and conducted interviews, concluding at the time that the driver bore no criminal responsibility. No arrests were made, and the case appeared closed, despite public outcry and allegations from friends and social media users that the driver, reportedly someone Cunningham knew, had left the scene without rendering aid.

Public Outcry and Family Demands for Justice

The viral video of the incident, along with persistent calls for justice from Cunningham’s family and friends, kept the case in the public eye. Friends who were with Cunningham that night described how she began dancing in front of Larkin’s car before being struck. They alleged that Larkin drove off, leaving Cunningham in the street, and only returned hours later. The community’s frustration grew as the initial police findings were seen as dismissive of these accounts.

Cunningham’s family, devastated by the loss, organized a vigil at Cliftondale Park in South Fulton. Dressed in green, Amiya’s favorite color, loved ones released balloons and shared memories, vowing to seek justice for her.

“Amiya has always been a beautiful soul full of love, laughter, friendship, a passion for animals, and fierce love of her family,” her aunt Chandra Walker said at the vigil, according to 11 Alive. “Miya’s death will not be in vain. Our family will see to it that she gets the justice that she deserves.”

Arrest Made

Amid mounting public pressure and new information brought forward by the victim’s family and friends, police re-examined the case. On May 17, authorities arrested Larkin, charging her with homicide by vehicle in the first degree and leaving the scene of an accident. The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not released further details about what prompted the reversal in their findings.

Remembering Amiya Cunningham

Cunningham, the oldest of seven siblings, had plans to enroll in beauty school and was looking forward to a new chapter in her life.

The night of her death was meant to be celebratory, coinciding with her younger sister’s prom and her aunt’s birthday. The circumstances of her death have compounded her family’s grief, but they remain united in honoring her memory and demanding accountability.

“There are no words to describe the devastation we are feeling for our beloved Amiya,” Walker said.

‘Between Tamar’s Wig and NeNe’s Makeup…I Don’t Trust Anything’: Tamar Braxton’s Shady Moment About Kandi Burrus Goes Left When Fans Zoom In on Her Hair

News - Sun, 05/18/2025 - 00:57

When Tamar Braxton recently took a seat across from Nene Leakes on the set of the sixth episode of Leakes new YouTube show, fans anticipated fireworks to blow.

Known for her unfiltered opinions and tell-it-like-it-is personality, the R&B songstress did not disappoint as she addressed her long-simmering feud with “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kandi Burruss.

Tamar Braxton appeared on the Nene Leakes show, intending to shade Kandi Burrus. However, viewers quickly zoomed in on her wig and made that a hot topic in a bad way. (Tamar Braxton. Photo: Tamarbraxton/Instagram. Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker. Photo: Kandi/Instagram)

However, in a twist that nobody saw coming, it wasn’t Braxton’s fiery comments about Burruss that set social media ablaze— It was what appeared to be happening several inches above her eyebrows that stole the spotlight in the May 14 episode and had fans doing double takes at their screens.

The conversation between the two reality TV veterans started innocently enough when Leakes brought up Braxton’s reputation for falling out with people.

When specifically asked about her issues with Burruss, Braxton launched into an impassioned explanation, insisting she isn’t jealous of the songwriter’s success and actually celebrates her achievements. The exchange quickly escalated into Braxton accusing Burruss of manipulating public opinion and doing “things behind the scenes.”

“Kandi, if you’re watching it — and we know you’re watching — the thing is this: We don’t have an issue with you. We’re not jealous of you. We actually celebrate your success,” Braxton declared.

She continued her monologue by suggesting Burruss needed to “be a better person” and stop using “the public’s opinion to manipulate them into thinking that people are really coming after you.”

Despite Leakes expressing interest in sitting down with Burruss, Braxton firmly stated she wouldn’t meet with her until Burruss “tells the people [the truth].”

When Hollywood Unlocked posted the clip online, its viewers seemed more fixated on Braxton’s hair than her words. Comments flooded in about her wig placement, completely overshadowing the content of the interview.

“Tamar your wig is killing me. You in the room and yo wig alllll the way in the lobby,” one person commented, highlighting the apparent disconnect between the singer and her hairpiece.

Another viewer expressed skepticism about the entire conversation based solely on the aesthetics, writing, “Between Tamar’s wig and NeNe’s makeup…I don’t trust anything that was said during this interview.”

The simple question “Is Tamars wig pushed back?” became the focal point of discussion, even making its way into the headline.

Some comments focused on her natural hair and how she styled it under the wig.

One said, “Sum ain’t right? Wig. Nose. Face. Baby hairs. I just. Huh? I can’t concentrate right.”

Another commenter stating, “Tamar stop playing with your face & you to damn old for baby hair.”

The distraction caused by Braxton’s hairstyle overshadowed the years-long complicated relationship between her and Burruss.

Their friction reportedly began during the 2017 “Great Xscape Tour,” where Braxton allegedly invited guests onstage who had publicly disrespected Xscape. Additional tension stemmed from Braxton’s firing from “The Real” and Burruss’ friends subsequently appearing on the show.

The pair appeared to make amends during their time on “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2019, but the peace was short-lived.

By 2022, new controversy erupted when Braxton defended former “RHOA” executive producer Carlos King after Burruss claimed he attempted to sell Xscape group members’ life stories to television networks without permission. Braxton’s public support of King via Instagram, posting “My friend @thecarlosking who don’t have to steal nobody nothing,” reignited tensions.

The feud intensified in late 2023 when Braxton alleged a “peach” and her husband had threatened her. During an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live,” she confirmed through a telling sip of her drink that she was referring to Burruss and Todd Tucker.

Braxton later claimed on Instagram Live that Burruss’ husband Tucker had confronted her menacingly, saying “You know what it is” while sizing her up, a moment her boyfriend Jeremy Robinson called “a coward move.”

Most recently, according to Soap Opera Central, in March 2025, the conflict bubbled up again when Burruss refused to entertain inviting Braxton to her restaurant Old Lady Gang, declaring, “I’m not playing games with clowns.”

This followed Braxton’s saying that the food quality at the restaurant was not good, and it was “a known thing” in Atlanta that it wasn’t a great place to dine.

As these two talented entertainers continue their public discord, Braxton’s wayward wig has become an unintended metaphor. In the court of public opinion, sometimes style mishaps can easily trump one of reality television’s most polarizing people and her dishing tea on someone most people see as her rival.

‘Really Hit Me In the Gut’: Longtime Advance Auto Parts Employee Shocked After Being Fired After Trying to Stop a Thief from Stealing from Store, He Says

News - Sat, 05/17/2025 - 17:00

A Navy veteran who spent more than two decades managing Advance Auto Parts says he was fired for doing what the military taught him best: stepping up when it counted.

Greg Pinson said he was just following his military training. He served in the US Navy for 24 years.

Greg Pinson says he was fired from Advanced Auto Parts for stopping a shoplifter. (Photos: YouTube screenshot/ABC 13)

“All I knew since the age of 18 was to be loyal and have commitment,” said Pinson, who had been a manager for Advance Auto Parts nearly as long — 22 years at nine different locations.

But his loyalty cost him in the end. Pinson said he was fired after trying to stop an alleged thief from stealing merchandise on April 24 from the store’s Almeda Genoa location in southeast Houston.

Video from inside the store shows Pinson trying to prevent a man from leaving the store while another worker calls 911.

But instead of thanking their employee for going above and beyond, Advance surprised Pinson with a pink slip.

“He said, ‘You’re being fired for basically being rude to a customer,'” Pinson recalled being told. “I said, ‘Wow. That really hit me in the gut.’ “

The video is now part of an investigation being conducted by the Houston Police Department.

Despite the circumstances surrounding his dismissal, Pinson refuses to blame anyone else, saying his military training also taught him to obey orders. He acknowledged he may have gone too far when he tried to keep the customer from leaving.

“I think I broke store policy. I do,” he said. “As far as stopping the individual from leaving with the items from the store.”

Asked by Houston’s ABC affiliate if he’d do it again, Pinson replied, “I can’t say I wouldn’t do it again.”

Advance Auto Parts didn’t respond to the station’s multiple requests for comment.

Social media users had Pinson’s back.

“What a dumba– world we live in,” wrote one Facebook user. “The guy was trying to protect the store and got fired. The guy’s a hero. What do you get for being a hero?”

Another asked why Advance didn’t show any loyalty to a longtime employee trying to do the right thing.

“They could have written him up, but not fire him after one incident,” she said.

But not everyone was sympathetic to Pinson.

“He knew the rules plus he knew the danger of trying to stop a thief,” he said. “I don’t feel sorry for him.”

Denzel Who?: Pauletta Washington Steals the Spotlight with Striking New Look, Fans Zoom In on Her ‘Cheekbones’

News - Sat, 05/17/2025 - 16:30

Pauletta Washington proved that timeless beauty knows no age when she debuted a fresh, natural makeup look on Mother’s Day that had social media users stopping mid-scroll to admire her radiance.

The actress and wife of Hollywood icon Denzel Washington took a moment for self-care before family celebrations, allowing her makeup artist to showcase her striking features, particularly her sculpted cheekbones that became the talk of Instagram.

The breathtaking transformation was shared by celebrity makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff-Kendricks, who reunited with her longtime client for the special occasion. Sheriff-Kendricks posted a video of the 74-year-old beauty beaming with confidence after receiving a soft, natural glam application.

A post shared by Ashunta Sheriff-Kendricks (@ashuntasheriff)

In the charming clip, when asked about her profession, Washington simply and proudly responded, “I’m a mom,” highlighting her prioritization of family despite her own accomplishments in the entertainment industry.

“One of the highlights was reuniting with my longtime client and one of my favorite humans, @ettappw,” Sheriff-Kendricks captioned the post. “When she reached out, I was overjoyed! I had the absolute pleasure of creating a soft, natural glam look for her stunning daughter Olivia (stay tuned for the look reveal – it’s worth the wait!). Doesn’t she look absolutely gorgeous?!?”

The post quickly garnered attention from Sheriff-Kendricks’ 140,000 followers, who couldn’t contain their admiration for Washington’s elegance.

“She is gorgeous. Look at those cheekbones. You did that,” one person wrote, acknowledging both Washington’s natural beauty and the makeup artist’s skill in enhancing it.

“What a STUNNER!” another commenter exclaimed, keeping their praise simple yet emphatic.

A third fan spoke to Washington’s enduring appeal over her decades in the public eye: “Baby, Pauletta been the prize and still the prize! Absolutely stunning!”

The admiration continued with a fourth comment that captured the overwhelming impact of Washington’s beauty: “I can’t eeeeeeeven with all this beauty. Omg. It takes my breath away.”

One noted, “She’s definitely pressure as the kids say,” using modern slang to acknowledge Washington’s impressive presence.

The stunning Mother’s Day appearance comes as Washington continues to stand firmly beside her husband of 41 years amid a bit of a professional hiccup.

Despite Denzel Washington’s Broadway production of “Othello” breaking box office records as the highest-grossing play revival in Broadway history, the production was completely shut out of Tony Award nominations announced on May 1.

When asked about the snub, Pauletta responded with the candor and grace that has characterized her public persona.

“Now see, that’s not something you want to ask me,” she said with a laugh before implying that such disappointments have been a recurring theme for their family in the entertainment industry.

This recent example of standing by her husband mirrors the unwavering support Washington has provided since their relationship began over four decades ago.

Their love story began humbly years before they became a Hollywood power couple, with Pauletta famously having to cover the cab fare on their first date when Denzel’s funds ran dry mid-evening.

While Denzel has risen to become one of cinema’s most celebrated actors with two Academy Awards to his name, Pauletta has maintained her own identity and career. Sheriff-Kendricks made sure to remind her followers of Washington’s accomplishments, noting that beyond being a devoted mother to the couple’s four children — filmmaker Malcolm, producer Katie, and actors John David and Olivia — she is an accomplished actress who has appeared in productions including “The Parkers,” “Philadelphia,” “Beloved,” and more

The couple’s enduring relationship has become as admired as their respective talents.

Pauletta has previously attributed their longevity to consistent effort, prayer, and forgiveness.

“We work at it. It’s work. There are a lot of prayers for strength for staying in a forgiveness mode and both parts, mine and his. But it’s the basic love that we have for each other,” she told People magazine at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.

The flip side of that is that her Mt. Vernon, New York, native husband says that he owes so much of his journey to her, even commending her as he enters into ministry.

As Pauletta continues to captivate audiences with both her inner and outer beauty at 74, her recent glamorous appearance serves as yet another reminder of her grace, resilience, and the striking cheekbones that have become as legendary as her 45-year love story with one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actors.

‘The World Knows It’s a Lie’: Trump Accused of Trying to Score Points with White Nationalists’ Over Claims of ‘White Genocide’ In South Africa, As Critics Call His Bluff on Insisting If Refugees Were Black He Would Treat Them the Same

News - Sat, 05/17/2025 - 15:00

Donald Trump on Friday doubled down on his claim that white South Africans the administration is identifying as refugees are victims of a genocide, while blasting the reporter who asked him about the message it sends to predominantly Black asylum seekers denied entry to the U.S.

“Well, I think if I see people in distress, I don’t care what color, what they look like, what anything– their size, their height, their eyes. I don’t care,” he said while traveling aboard Air Force One. “But they happen to be white. And if they were Black, I’d do the exact same thing. And we treat people very well when we see there’s a genocide going on.”

The president said Monday he had fast-tracked the South African refugees because “they’re being killed, and we don’t want to see people be killed.”

He insisted, “It’s a genocide that’s taking place that you people don’t want to write about, but it’s a terrible thing that’s taking place.”

Trump and South African native Elon Musk have been using claims of genocide to justify taking in the Afrikaners as refugees while turning away other groups. Reports show Musk’s AI bot Grok has also been pushing that narrative, though there’s no evidence to support it.

There’s no debating whether genocide is taking place in another African country. In January, just before Trump returned to power, the U.S. State Department concluded that Rapid Support Forces (RSF) forces committed genocide in Darfur during the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

Human Rights Watch has documented targeted ethnic killings, systematic rape and sexual violence by the RSF in West Darfur and called for further investigation into evidence that the RSF intends to commit genocide.

Trump on his decision to welcome White South Africans:

"If I see people in distress, I don't care what color, what they look like– The farmers in South Africa are being treated brutally. They happen to be white. If they were black, I'd do the exact same thing. We treat people… pic.twitter.com/i4pFBqV3HG

— Ron Smith (@Ronxyz00) May 16, 2025

Trump appeared to equivocate Friday when pressed whether a genocide was actually happening in South Africa.

“So if it’s a genocide, that’s terrible,” he said. “And I happen to believe it could very well be. South Africa’s out of control, and it’s been out of control for a long time, and the media doesn’t report it.”

“And I’m not looking for reporting because, believe me, it’s easier for me not to do anything,” he continued. “It’s a lot easier because I don’t get nasty questions like that.”

On social media, many questioned Trump’s true intentions when it comes to the South African refugees.

“Absolutely disgraceful,” wrote one critic on X. “Donald Trump peddles the false ‘white genocide’ myth in South Africa to stoke racial fear and score points with white nationalists. There is no genocide—just his shameless exploitation to turn every issue into a grievance for white identity politics.”

Another critic of the policy called it “a dishonest attempt to discredit South Africa.”

“The world knows it’s a lie,” he said. “They are not being persecuted. In fact, they enjoy a much higher standard of living than their majority Black counterparts.”

Whites still own three-quarters of private land and have about 20 times the wealth of the Black majority, according to international academic journal, the Review of Political Economy.

So far  59 white Afrikaners, the descendants of Dutch settlers living in South Africa, have migrated to the U.S., with more expected to follow suit. Minnesota, Idaho, and Alabama are among the states taking in the migrants, who skipped over about 12,000 already approved refugees from other global hot spots.

‘Clearly a Sham Marriage’: New Report Claims Melania and Donald Trump Are Living Separate Lives and the White House’s Response Is Only Fueling the Buzz

News - Sat, 05/17/2025 - 14:37

The marriage of President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump remains under a microscope after reports claimed she has barely been in the White House since the Republican politician’s inauguration in January 2025.

Speculation that the Trumps’ relationship is merely for show has been the talk of Washington, D.C., for years. Biographer Michael Wolff’s recent remarks poured even more fuel on the gossip fire.

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump continue to face rumors that their 20-year marriage is a sham. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)

“They clearly do not in any way inhabit a marriage as we define marriage. And I think maybe we can more specifically say they live separate lives,” stated Wolff about the POTUS and FLOTUS on a recent episode of “The Daily Beast Podcast.”

Wolff is best known for penning popular books about Trump. He released the best-selling “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” in 2018, which was followed by “Siege: Trump Under Fire” in 2019.

“They are separated. The president of the United States and the first lady are separated,” Wolff emphatically told “The Daily Beast Podcast” host Joanna Coles.

Wolff’s unsubstantiated details about the first family received an on-the-record response from the Trump administration. White House communications director Steven Cheung addressed the matter with The Independent.

“He is an imbecile of the highest order, and his Trump Derangement Syndrome-addled brain has caused him to lead a miserable existence devoid of reality,” Cheung said about Wolff, who has been a vocal critic of the MAGA leader.

Wolff has not been the only person to suggest that Melania is no longer in a loving relationship with the most powerful person on the planet. Allegations of marital issues have been plaguing the couple since Trump’s first term in office from 2017 to 2021.

Melania has been filmed multiple times appearing irritated with her husband in public. At Trump’s first inauguration in January 2017, the former model’s facial expression quickly changed from a smile to a frown after Trump turned away from her direction during the ceremony.

In May 2017, Trump reached out to hold Melania’s hand while they were walking on the tarmac of Israel’s Ben Gurion airport. Cameras caught her seemingly batting him away. The awkward moment went viral and inspired countless memes. However, Melania downplayed the incident.

The mother of 19-year-old Barron Trump asserted that the presence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara Netanyahu, at the airport played a role in the clumsy exchange.

“The red carpet simply could not accommodate four of us abreast,” Melania wrote about the moment in her self-titled 2024 memoir, per Metro. “It was a minor, innocent gesture, nothing more.”

For the second Trump administration, the first lady has mostly stayed out of the spotlight. She did join her husband for the funeral of the late Pope Francis on April 26 at the Vatican.

Melania then made a rare appearance at the White House on May 8 for a Mother’s Day reception. Trump stood beside her in the East Room as she thanked him for his “kind words” before giving a speech about motherhood.

Happy Mother’s Day! pic.twitter.com/lcojZQcAiF

— First Lady Melania Trump (@FLOTUS) May 11, 2025

Neither that Mother’s Day show of affection between Donald and Melania, nor the White House denials about a split have stopped people from theorizing that the Slovenian-American former model secretly despises her spouse.

“It’s not a marriage, it was a business transaction,” one person stated in the comment section of The Daily Beast channel’s YouTube episode about the president’s marriage. Another tongue-in-cheek reply in the channel read, “Melania shows up as required in her contract.”

On The Independent’s website, someone commented, “That is clearly a sham marriage – nothing more, nothing less.” Another person put forward, “She got what she wanted out of Trump, and she needs to milk him for all he’s worth.”

Newsweek readers had opinions about the Trumps’ marriage, too. For example, one person stated, “She can’t stand him, it’s obvious.” A second offered, “Anything the Trump camp labels as ‘blatant lies and fabrications’ usually turns out to be true.”

Donald and Melania celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this year. The New York real estate mogul and his third wife tied the knot on Jan. 22, 2005, in Palm Beach, Florida.

According to reports, Melania initially met her future husband in 1998 at a party in New York. Trump was still married to television personality Marla Maples at the time. Maples wed Donald in 1993. They separated in 1997 before formally divorcing in 1999.

Maples gave birth to Trump’s second daughter, Tiffany Trump, in 1993. The late Ivana Trump was the mother of “The Apprentice” reality show star’s three oldest children. After marrying Donald in 1977, Ivana gave birth to Donald Trump Jr. in 1977, Ivanka Trump in 1981, and Eric Trump in 1984.

Remaining Trump’s wife has provided notable opportunities for Melania. In 2025, she controversially launched a $MELANIA memecoin. Melania also secured a $40 million licensing deal with Amazon to produce a Brett Ratner-directed documentary about her life.

‘I Probably Would’ve Pulled My Momma’s Whole Wig Off’: Blue Ivy Jumps Into Action Onstage After Her Earring Gets Caught In Beyoncé’s Hair

News - Sat, 05/17/2025 - 00:00

At just 13 years old, Blue Ivy is proving that she knows how to respond quickly when unexpected problems arise.

Her professionalism was put to the test on Thursday night in Chicago as she performed with her mother Beyoncé for the Cowboy Carter tour. The mother-daughter duo got a little tangled up onstage, unbeknownst to Queen Bey, thanks to her eldest daughter’s quick thinking.

Blue Ivy springs into action to get her and her mom out of mix-up on stage. (Photo: @beyonce/Twitter)

Beyoncé sat front and center with her left arm around her younger daughter Rumi as she sang her heartfelt “Protector” ode to motherhood. During this performance, Beyoncé was surrounded by an ensemble of other performers, one of them Blue Ivy, who sat right behind her. In part of the choreography, Blue Ivy wraps her arms around her mother and lays her head atop of her mother’s before lifting her head to do more moves. At this moment the entanglement occurred.

Blue Ivy lifted her head and spread her arms before she suddenly realized a strand of Beyoncé’s hair is caught in her earring. The teenager reacted with a look of shock with her eyes widening. But instead of panicking, she calmly took off her earring and finished the dance moves, with the hair immediately detaching from the gold jewelry as her mother stood and walked forward with Rumi. After taking just a few steps ahead, Beyoncé turned to make sure Blue Ivy was OK before she continued singing.

Fans reacted to Blue Ivy’s quick adjustment skills in the comments of a fan page called BeyHere.

One person commended her and said, “She’s graduating with honors from the Beyoncé University of Professionalism.”

Fans often call Blue Ivy the “manager” as a joke to say she keeps her mom in line. One fan used the term in her comment to praise her. “Manager Blue so quick to address issues at the workplace,” they said.

“And her manager handled the situation with grace and poise,” said another.

An Instagram user commenting at The Shade Room page said, “She did so well. I probably would’ve pulled my Momma’s whole wig off.”

Blue Ivy has been performing with her 35 time Grammy-award-winning mom on stage since 2023 during the Renaissance tour. It was a move that Beyoncé as protective mom didn’t initially want to say yes to, but in the 2023 “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé” she said she told Blue Ivy if she saw her work hard in rehearsals that she could perform.

@beyoncevi

the way she responded was PERFECT. we dont deserve her bc yall are horrible online #beyonce #blueivy #renaissancetour #fyp

Blue Ivy earned a spot on stage that year, and after her first couple of performances she got criticism and negative comments from people all over the world watching her. She was only 11 at the time, but she used the negativity as fuel to motivate her to work hard. As she continued to perform throughout the tour and as she performs in “Cowboy Carter” fans noticed the growth, comfortability, and confidence that Blue Ivy now has on stage.

She’s noticed the change within herself as well.

“I mean there was lots of like negative things that people had to say, but I can see that the more that I do it, the better I become,” she said in the Renaissance film.

‘Get Out of the… Vehicle Now!’: Mississippi Cop Forcefully Handcuffs Black Woman Outside Walmart Store, All Because She Parked In a Handicap Parking Space

News - Fri, 05/16/2025 - 22:00

Bodycam footage shows the moments a police officer in northwestern Mississippi handcuffed a Black woman outside a Walmart for parking in a handicap space even though she had a placard hanging from her rearview mirror and was waiting for her grandmother, whom she said is handicapped and was inside the store shopping.

Senatobia Police arrested Breshari Faulkner on Mother’s Day, WHBQ reported.

Bodycam video that police released of the arrest shows a female officer approach Faulkner’s car in the store’s parking lot and ask who the handicap parking tag belongs to. Faulkner informs the cop that she dropped her grandmother off at the front of the store and was waiting for her.

Bodycam footage shows a Mississippi cop forcefully cuffing Breshari Faulkner on the ground because she parked in a handicapped space in a Walmart parking lot, even though she had a handicap placard. (Photo: Senatobia Police Department/Facebook)

“I had dropped her off, and she went into the store, but I can move,” Faulkner said. The officer asked how Faulkner dropped her grandmother off. “I’ll just move,” Faulkner replies.

The officer responds by asking Faulkner for her identification, and Faulkner asks what she did.

“You’re parking in a handicap, and you’re not allowed to park here,” the officer answers.

“Yes, ma’am, but I just said I was going to move. My grandmother, she’s handicapped, and she’s in the store,” Faulkner said.

When the officer repeatedly asks whether Faulkner’s grandmother got out of Faulkner’s car, Faulkner tells her again, “I’ll just move.”

The cop then questions how her grandmother could have gotten out of the car with “all this stuff in here,” pointing to several items in the passenger seat.

When Faulkner repeatedly asserts she hasn’t done anything wrong, the cop tells her she’s violating handicap parking laws and asks for her ID.

“You have, and I’m requesting your ID, and if I don’t get it, I will arrest you. It’s just simple,” the officer states.

Mississippi law states that a handicap placard must be used only when a physically disabled person is the driver or passenger of a motor vehicle at the time of its parking.

As Faulkner searches for her ID, the officer then points out that her children aren’t properly secured in the car. Faulkner says that she unbuckled them as soon as she parked, but the officer claims to have witnessed no such thing, saying she drove up behind Faulkner as soon as she parked.

“You just sitting up here finding a reason to f— with me,” Faulkner says.

As Faulkner continues protesting the officer’s treatment, the officer accuses her of escalating the situation.

“I want a supervisor or something because you’re feeling real hostile and s—,” Faulkner says as she shows her identification. “I need a supervisor because you’re messing with me for no reason, and I told you I would move. You messing with me for no reason. I got my kids in here. I do not feel safe with you doing this.”

The officer takes Faulkner’s ID and then orders her to step out of the car.

“Get out of the vehicle now before I make you get out of here,” the officer says before calling for backup. “Do you want to do this in front of your children or not?”

The officer orders Faulkner to get out of the car again and then grabs Faulkner to physically remove her from the vehicle. As Faulkner cries out, the officer steps back and points a Taser at her.

“Get out of the f—ing vehicle now! Get out now!” the officer shouts.

“Why is you grabbing me? You sitting up here using unnecessary force,” Faulkner states after exiting the car.

As soon as Faulkner steps out of her car, the cop attempts to handcuff her. Faulkner cries out and questions why the cop is grabbing her, and falls to the ground during the struggle.

Bodycam footage shows the cop crouching over her and trying to grab one of her arms to cuff her.

“She’s hurting me!” Faulkner screams repeatedly as the officer presses a knee to the side of her stomach and tries to force Faulkner’s arm around her back.

After the officer cuffs one of Faulkner’s wrists, she’s heard telling a bystander off-camera, “I didn’t escalate this, ma’am. She did.”

As she tries to cuff Faulkner’s other wrist, she tells her, “Stop resisting,” as Faulkner rolls around on the ground.

Faulkner yells back, “She’s twisting my arm! Call another officer, please.”

The officer responds that more officers are on the way and gets a second handcuff on Faulkner.

“She grabbed me out my car! My kids is in my car!” Faulkner yells out to the onlookers gathering around the scene.

The officer orders Faulkner to get up, but Faulkner remains on the ground crying and breathing heavily.

When more officers finally arrive, they help Faulkner sit up.

“She grabbed me out my car, and then she stepped on me,” Faulkner tells a police sergeant. “I told her I was going to move. I told her I was sorry, and I said I was going to move.”

The sergeant asks if he can help Faulkner stand up.

“I gave her my ID, and she still pulled me out the car,” Faulkner told the sergeant. “Please get her away from me.”

The sergeant helps Faulkner stand up, then walks her to his police vehicle.

The officer who handcuffed Faulkner is seen approaching a Walmart shopper and requesting that she give a verbal statement to the police about what she witnessed.

Bystanders also caught the incident on cellphone video, including the moments when Faulkner’s grandmother walked out of the store to a police scene.

Faulkner was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and a handicap parking violation.

Immediately following the incident, Senatobia Police stated, “This incident could’ve very easily ended with a citation or even a warning until the actions of the suspect escalated this encounter. I encourage anyone pulled over by a law enforcement officer to comply with their commands. If you believe that an officer acted incorrectly during an encounter, please contact that law enforcement agency so they can investigate the incident.”

Senatobia Police released the body camera footage and other videos of the incident on Facebook, accompanied by another statement:

“Regarding the incident that occurred at Walmart in Senatobia on May 11th 2025. Below are several videos from multiple angles that add clarification to the incident. We are posting these videos to continue our efforts to be transparent with our community. We previously released a statement with the known facts at the time. This was done so that the public could be informed quickly of the information that we had at the time, as we searched and retrieved all video available in the area and body-cam footage from the officers involved. It is always our intention to give an accurate account of what transpires involving our officers. We appreciate the patience of our citizens as we conducted a thorough investigation. It would not be fair to our officers, or the parties involved, to put out a hasty collaboration just to appease the few who either don’t appreciate law and order, or those who are not familiar with our continued efforts to remain transparent over the last five years.”

Rabi Ba wants the 30-year-old man charged in the fatal shooting of her uncle to know who he killed and the void his death leaves in the small community of West Africans in the victim’s suburban Dallas city of North Richland Hills.

“Why? Why did you do it? Did you know he was a father? Did you know he was an uncle?” she asked while speaking to local station WFAA.

“My heart is broken, and we are very hurt,” Ba said. Her uncle, 60-year-old Tahirou Diallo, was the glue who kept their community together, and his void will be felt for generations, she said.

“Right now, you see everybody heartbroken because nobody was expecting this,” said Ibrahima Bah, Diallo’s nephew.

Diallo was working for Uber just before midnight on Wednesday, May 7. Multiple videos showed him driving a passenger down the 8000 block of Mickey Street.

According to witnesses, the passenger, identified as Kane Ellington Roden, 30, got out of the passenger side, walked around the back of the car to the driver’s side and fatally shot Diallo at 12:01 a.m. The witness, who spoke to Fox 4, said she saw Roden hold both hands around the gun in a stance and shoot.

Responding officers found Diallo and Roden near an SUV parked in the roadway. Neighbors say Roden lived just feet away from where the shooting took place.

Diallo was pronounced dead at the scene, according to North Richland Hills police, while Roden was highly intoxicated, with a firearm on the seat next to him. He was arrested and booked into Tarrant County jail Thursday, according to online records.

Roden is charged with murder and two unrelated charges of continuous violence against a family and violation of a bond/protective order. His bond was set at $500,000.

There’s no known motive for the shooting. Police said the two men didn’t know each other.

“He was there when I was born. He was there for my naming ceremony and all that stuff…” Jariatou Ngaruko, Diallo’s niece, told CBS News Texas. “He was not someone that was taken lightly in our community. He cared about us a lot, and he was strong in his faith and his religion, and about making sure that you always take care of the people around you.”

Roden, meanwhile, has a lengthy criminal history, with at least 10 other charges from local authorities dating back to 2013. Including two outstanding charges for violence against a family and violation of a bond/protective order.

Diallo leaves behind a wife and 3-year-old son.

“He’s not going to get to see his son grow up,” Ngaruko said. “When you take that one person’s life, even out of that moment of anger, frustration you’re feeling, it affects years to come. His son is not going to notice this until years to come.”

Diallo’s family is calling on Uber and other rideshare companies to take more accountability and implement better protection features for its drivers.

“They do a good job vetting their drivers so if they could do that same vetting for their riders, I think that would be if we could get anything from this,” said Ibrahima Diallo, Diallo’s cousin.

Rabi Ba called for criminal background checks of passengers. “When is it going to stop? How many of Uber drivers have to be killed before Uber take accountability and try to change their policies and change things around,” she said.

In a statement, Uber expressed sadness at “this devastating loss.”

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the driver’s family during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement continued. “We are in contact with law enforcement and are supporting their investigation in any way we can.”

The family has started a GoFundMe to send Diallo’s body back home to Guinea in West Africa. They’ve raised about $15,000 as of Thursday afternoon.

“He always had a light, and I will always want to carry a light on myself and pour that into other people, how he poured it onto us,” Ba said.

‘Senseless Loss’: Father of Three Fatally Stabbed After Brooklyn Bus Passenger Complained His Backpack Took Up Too Much Room, Incident Caught on Surveillance Camera

News - Fri, 05/16/2025 - 16:50

A brazen stabbing of a 41-year-old man unfolded on an MTA shuttle bus in Brooklyn in broad daylight on May 11. Days later, police have arrested the man accused of killing Alvin Francis over a seat dispute.

“We are heartbroken over the tragic and senseless loss of Alvin Francis… a loving and dedicated father, husband, brother… taken from us far too soon,” read an official statement released on May 12 from the victim’s grieving family members.

Alvin Francis pictured with his sons was tragically stabbed en route home from work. (Credit: News12Brooklyn Video Screengrab)

Francis, the father of three sons, was a hardworking roofer who took a shift on Sunday to earn extra money for his son’s middle school graduation.

“He’s a hardworking man,” his wife Candice Todman-Francis told the Daily News. “Work and home — literally, work and home and his favorite place is Home Depot.”

The Queens resident was returning home around 2 p.m. to celebrate Mother’s Day with his family when he got into a dispute with another passenger over a seat on the J90 shuttle bus, which runs on weekends when the J train is out of service.

According to police and surveillance footage reviewed by investigators, the altercation involved 36-year-old Kareem McCalla of Richmond Hill, who had boarded first through the rear door.

Prosecutors added more detail about the incident. Stating that the altercation began when McCalla asked Francis to move his backpack so he could sit down. Even after the bag was moved, McCalla reportedly wasn’t satisfied with the space provided and threatened to stab Francis. McCalla grabs Francis’s chain then proceeded to stab him as he tries to get away.

Francis was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Police launched a manhunt for the suspect, releasing footage that showed a Black man wearing a light gray hoodie, blue hat, backpack, and a cross necklace. On Tuesday, May 14, NYPD confirmed they had arrested McCalla, who turned himself in, and charged him with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. He is currently being held without bail

Todman-Francis recalled to news outlets her last conversation with her husband. They spoke on the phone not long before the tragedy to discuss dinner plans for Mother’s Day. “See you when I get home,” he told his wife. She grew increasingly worried when he never showed up. “I hadn’t heard from him, so I tracked his phone and I saw him at the precinct. So I called the precinct,” she said. Soon after, officers arrived at her house to deliver the terrible news.

The couple married five years ago, but had been together for more than two decades, and were looking forward to a vow renewal in August.

“Everybody’s saddened by it. He was a neighborhood guy. Family man. Hardworking,” said his neighbor in South Jamaica, Queens. “We’re just still processing it. It’s tough.”

In the family’s official statement, they requested privacy and indicated they would not be making additional comments. “At this moment, our family is asking for privacy and space as we grieve,” read the statement. “We are placing our full trust in law enforcement as they continue their investigation, and we remain hopeful that justice will be served.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the NYPD or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.

‘Suspicious’: Kanye’s Deserted Church Draws Fresh Scrutiny as Mysterious Fire Triggers Arson Investigation

News - Fri, 05/16/2025 - 14:00

Kanye West’s once-promising property in Los Angeles’ Northridge neighborhood now lies abandoned, surrounded by yellow caution tape, a broken fence, and a “No Trespassing” sign.

According to The Sun, the space the controversial artist bought to use as the headquarters for his Yeezy brand or a location for his Donda Academy has become the center of an investigation after it burned to the ground in October 2024, adding to the mounting financial and legal troubles facing the embattled rapper.

A new tabloid report insinuates Kanye West may be connected to the October blaze that consumed one derelict property he owned in Los Angeles. (Photo: Gotham/GC Images)

The fire that overtook the building began just after 12:45 a.m. on Oct. 14 last year, with crews battling the intense heat and flames for more than 30 minutes.

While no injuries were reported, a nearby residence sustained superficial damage from the blaze. The property, purchased for $1.5 million in January 2023 from the adjacent Cornerstone Christian Church, had long been abandoned and deteriorating into what neighbors called an “eyesore” with boarded-up windows, old shopping carts, and trash littering the grounds.

The Los Angeles Fire Department began to consider the possibility of arson, likely caused by squatters, after flames were contained to just one building. Their suspicions were heightened by the property’s neglected state and Kanye West’s absence from the scene. Aerial footage shows only piles of debris where the structure once stood.

The Daily Mail readers were on fire with their reactions to the blaze and appeared to be unforgiving toward West.

“Burned to the ground, just like his career,” one person commented. Another said, “Does Ye need insurance money?”

“Suspicious….” a third speculated, while another wrote, “Squatters or insurance claim…”

Others suggested financial motives: “He was smart enough to go after the insurance money. But dumb enough to let the policy lapse,” while another claimed, “He probably did it. He needs the insurance money.”

The U.S. Sun reports the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety has inspected the site twice, once in January and again in March 2025.

West, however, is nowhere to be found and hasn’t paid for these mandatory inspections, resulting in two liens being placed on the now-empty plot of land. His representative did not respond to requests for comment.

This property is just one piece of West’s crumbling real estate empire in Los Angeles, according to figures assembled by the Sun. The rapper has accumulated an eye-watering $448,254 in property tax arrears on five of his luxury homes and offices.

In January, he owed at least $365,592 in taxes including penalties for non-payment, with another $82,662 added for failing to pay the first half of 2025 taxes on time. Each month he defaults, another $3,272 in penalties is added to his mounting debt.

His church property has accumulated approximately $49,200 in arrears with $358 per month in penalties, as he’s never paid taxes on the plot. The biggest debt is at his derelict $6.7 million Yeezy Headquarters on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, which has accumulated arrears of $202,287 and faces $1,435-a-month penalties.

West, currently in Spain after fleeing America following backlash over his Hitler comments on X, recently released a controversial single titled “Heil Hitler (Hooligan Version)” on the 80th anniversary of VE day.

HEIL HITLER (HOOLIGAN VERSION) pic.twitter.com/Fw0LiR7wXo

— CHALDEAN G (@ChaldeanGroyper) May 8, 2025

The release has further inflamed tensions with his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, who sources say has hired 24/7 security and instructed relatives to be careful about sharing information about their children online amid his erratic behavior.

In a separate legal matter, West recently settled a wrongful termination and unpaid wages lawsuit against his now-shuttered Donda Academy.

The case, brought by several former teachers who alleged unsafe conditions and discriminatory practices, was set to go to trial before the settlement was reached, People reports. According to the California Department of Education, Donda Academy officially closed in June 2024.

As investigators continue to probe the suspicious fire, the empty lot stands as a stark symbol of West’s crumbling empire — a property acquired with promise, abandoned in neglect, and ultimately consumed by flames that may have been intentionally set.

‘Wrong Person for This Job’: Black Senator Scorches Robert F. Kennedy for ‘Unmitigated Gall’ of ‘DEI’ Comment, Demands Resignation

News - Fri, 05/16/2025 - 13:00

Maryland U.S. Sen. Angela Alsobrooks has stuck to her messaging this week, at protests and in a congressional hearing: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. must go!

Alsobrooks made it clear Wednesday she’s had enough of Kennedy’s dissembling and vaccine skepticism, telling Kennedy, “Sir, you are the wrong person for this job.”

It wasn’t clear that Kennedy disagreed with Alsobrooks. Earlier Wednesday, he told the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee he didn’t think people “should be taking medical advice from me” as he faced questions about his fringe beliefs on vaccinations and autism. He also appeared before the House Appropriations Committee to discuss President Donald Trump‘s 2026 budget, which includes deep cuts to HHS.

Alsobrooks to RFK Jr: "You are the wrong person for this job. And you had in this hearing today the unmitigated gall to say at the beginning of your testimony that China is ahead of the United States in healthcare because China does not have DEI." pic.twitter.com/Zr4Vg1LLP6

— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) May 14, 2025

Kennedy said he supported the cuts, which have already eliminated care programs, stymied medical research and reduced staffing. The budget proposes even deeper cuts.

Kennedy said DOGE provided the blueprint for the spending cuts, which he and his team implemented with occasional pushback. He also said he’s reinstated a few programs that were inadvertently axed.

Alsobrooks found Kennedy’s lack of specifics troubling and was also taken aback by his claim that China had exceeded the U.S. in at least some areas of health care because “the Chinese are not spending a lot of money on DEI.”

— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) May 14, 2025

He’s also given a high-profile platform to a bonkers conspiracy theory that COVID-19 was “ethnically targeted” to spare Chinese people and Ashkenazi Jews.

“I’ve been sitting through this hearing all day today, and noted you have been unable in most cases to answer specific questions related to your agency,” Alsobrooks said.

“Because I haven’t been given time,” answered Kennedy.

“Well, no, you have been given time. But the point of the matter is you’ve been unable to answer specific questions,” the Maryland senator told him. “Sir, you are the wrong person for this job. And you had, in this hearing today, the unmitigated gall to say at the beginning of your testimony that China is the head of the United States in health care because China does not have DEI.”

Kennedy denied saying that about China. Alsobrooks offered to play the tape back.

The first-term senator held a “sick of it” rally over the weekend outside the National Institutes of Health, demanding that Kennedy resign from his position, according to the Baltimore Banner.

On Tuesday, she introduced a resolution declaring the Senate has no confidence in Kennedy to “faithfully carry out the duties of his office.” The 15-page resolution summarizes Kennedy’s actions so far, arguing that, by slashing health programs and discrediting vaccines, he’s diminished his own mission.

But it’s unlikely Kennedy is going anywhere, as Trump has praised his work.

Kennedy was also asked about his stance on measles. Cases have risen during the first few months of his tenure, and The Wall Street Journal said in a recent editorial that the secretary was vindicating his critics.

Scammers Pose as Family of Black Boy Called the N-Word on Playground In Racist Video to Try to Cash In on $340,000 Raised By NAACP

News - Fri, 05/16/2025 - 12:00

A local NAACP group in Minnesota said multiple individuals have been posing as the rightful recipients of more than a quarter-million dollars that the organization raised for the family of a Black child who was called racial slurs on a playground.

The NAACP Rochester Branch launched a GoFundMe that drew thousands of donations for a young Black boy who suffered racial abuse at a public park by a woman who has been identified as Shiloh Hendrix.

The encounter was caught on camera by a bystander who caught Hendrix shamelessly using the N-word multiple times after calling the boy the slur. Video of the interaction went viral and swiftly drew backlash.

In response, the NAACP Rochester Branch launched a counter-campaign for the family of the boy who was targeted by Hendrix’s hateful rhetoric. They halted the campaign after it reached more than $340,000 in donations.

The organization released a statement on Monday saying three separate families came forward at different times claiming to be the boy’s family.

“The initial claim came from an individual claiming to represent the family. They requested a direct check from the Rochester Branch of the NAACP. We informed them that funds would only be released through a trust. We determined this individual was not affiliated with the real family,” the group wrote on Facebook.

The group discontinued communication with the first family and organizations supporting their claim after they learned details about a second family who filed a police report. However, the City of Rochester Police Department recently released new evidence discrediting the second family’s claims.

After the third family approached the organization after its town hall on May 7, NAACP members advised them to contact local police. The group, alongside the police department, verified that the third family was the correct victimized family.

The second family also tried to launch a GoFundMe, which was paused after NAACP members contacted the platform about their counterfeit claims. The group stated that it is actively working to reroute funds from the second family’s GoFundMe to the family “that law enforcement now confirms with 100% confidence that they believe to be the correct family.”

Neither the NAACP nor authorities have released the identity of the third family. In an earlier statement, the NAACP said all of the donations will be placed in a trust dedicated to supporting the needs of the impacted child.

“I have seen, touched, hugged this beautiful child and real family,” Walé Elegede, Rochester NAACP president, said in a statement, according to The Minnesota Star Tribune. “We will continue to support this beautiful child and we will continue to demand accountability and justice from the woman that intentionally traumatized, verbally attacked with a racial slur, and caused fear and emotional harm on the young boy.”

The Rochester City Attorney’s Office has still not released a decision on whether it plans to file criminal charges against Hendrix.

Hendirx started a campaign of her own on GiveSendGo to raise funds to relocate her family after her address was leaked online. It has raised more than $770,000 so far.

Critics have slammed GiveSendGo for permitting Hendrix’s fundraiser on its platform. Hendrix updated her donors on May 9, stating that she has started receiving funds from the campaign.

“We can now work on starting a new life,” Hendrix wrote on the fundraising page. “I am so grateful for you all. Amazing things can happen when like minded individuals work together. We have proven just how powerful and great we are! Keep standing up for what is right!”

‘What In the Hell Has She Done to Herself?’: Sharon Osbourne Spotted Looking Frail, Struggles to Gain Weight, After Admitting to Overdoing It with Ozempic

News - Fri, 05/16/2025 - 11:50

Sharon Osbourne has openly admitted for over a year now that she’s been struggling to put on weight since using Ozempic. Recent paparazzi photos of her suggest that is true.

The former “The Talk” co-host was spotted out in Los Angeles with her daughter Aimee Osbourne on May 14 holding her purse as she headed toward their vehicle. Her thin figure, although covered up, was still noticeable under the white button-up top and brown pants she wore.

Readers of the Daily Mail had their usual Pavlovian reaction in the tabloid’s comment section.

One person said, “She has made a right mess of herself.”

Another person reacted to the outlet saying she was “showing off her smooth visage” and commented, “Smooth visage, my arris! She looks like the Wife of Finklestein. What in the hell has she done to herself? I’ve got several years on her, and my skin looks like a baby’s bum by comparison lol!”

A third said, “She maybe thinks she looks great with her slim figure, but she don’t. In former times she had a good looking face, but now she looks really awful. In my opinion she’s made a terrible mistake.”

— Daily Mail US (@Daily_MailUS) May 14, 2025

Osbourne told The Daily Mail in November 2023 that the drug, which was developed to treat Type 2 diabetes, made her drop too much weight.

“I’m too gaunt, and I can’t put any weight on. I want to because I feel I’m too skinny. I’m under 100 pounds, and I don’t want to be,” she said.

Osbourne, who had been using Ozempic since December 2022 and stopped in April 2023, also took the time to caution younger people. “My warning is don’t give it to teenagers, it’s just too easy,” she said. “You can lose so much weight and it’s easy to become addicted to that, which is very dangerous. I couldn’t stop losing weight and now I’ve lost 42 pounds and I can’t afford to lose any more.”

In a more recent interview with the outlet, Osbourne revealed the shocking detail that she weighs “just over” 7 stones. A stone, a unit of weight measurement used in the United Kingdom, is equivalent to 14 pounds. So Osbourne was saying she weighed about 98 pounds.

The 72-year-old said, “I need to put on 10 pounds, but however much I eat, I stay the same weight.” She said she feels “frustrated” with the aftermath of using Ozempic and added, “I’ve had enough. I’ve given up on all interventions. I couldn’t have much more facial surgery — there’s not that much skin left to stretch, pull or cut. And I won’t have any more fillers or Botox.”

In the midst of her pledge to give up the facial work, Osbourne, who has done a range of cosmetic procedures, also got candid about her insecurities. “I don’t think I’ll ever be happy with the way I look,” she said. “But I’m now satisfied. It’s taken years for me to say this, but I’ve learned my lesson. This is me. It’s finally time to leave well alone.”

According to Business Insider, Osbourne has had three face lifts, breast implants, botox, fillers, lifts to her arms and legs, gastric bypass to lose weight and a tummy tuck.

‘I Regretted It Immediately’: Jamie Lee Curtis Opens Up About the One Cruel Comment That Led Her to Plastic Surgery

News - Fri, 05/16/2025 - 00:39

Jamie Lee Curtis is opening up about the time she got plastic surgery after receiving disparaging comments from a cinematographer.

The seasoned actress claimed the procedure took place when she was in her 20s and working on her 1985 film “Perfect.” During her May 11 interview on “60 Minutes” she revealed the exact words the cinematographer said that made her feel low enough to get work done.

Jamie Lee Curtis opes up about plastic surgery she received after cinematographer made disparaging comment about her looks (Photo: @jamieleecurtis/Instagram)

“He was like, ‘Yeah, I’m not shooting her today. Her eyes are baggy.’” She added, “And I was 25, so for him to say that, it was very embarrassing.”

Curtis didn’t state in that interview who the cinematographer was but she did reveal the name back in a 2019 New Yorker interview. The perpetrator ended up being Gordon Willis, who is also known for other films like “The Godfather,” and “All The President’s Men.” He died at age 82 in 2014.

The “Halloween” star revealed the decision she made is not one she’s especially proud of, and it’s still something that affects her to this day, “That’s just not what you want to do when you’re 25 or 26. And I regretted it immediately and have kind of sort of regretted it since.”

Fans commented on People’s Facebook post about the matter.

One person said, “That’s why some in the industry get plastic or have eating disorder as someone made a comment. Usually a director.”

“At least she hasn’t ruined her face like others. And always a beautiful woman and simple,” said a second.

A third wrote, “How sad that a movie set remake had such a lasting impact.”

Curtis said the regret still lingers “way so now” because “I’ve become a really public advocate to say to women you’re gorgeous and you’re perfect the way you are. So, yeah, it was not a good thing for me to do.”

While she is 26 years sober now, the 66-year-old said the surgery took such a toll on her that it led her to becoming addicted to opioids. The drugs are usually used as painkillers but can also produce a euphoric or high feeling, leading to users becoming addicted.

“I became very enamored with the warm bath of an opiate,” she said. “You know, drank a little bit, never too excess, never any big public demonstrations. I was very quiet, very private about it, but it became a dependency for sure.”

‘She Got Them Crazy Eyes!’: Cellphone Video Shows Uber Driver Pulling Gun on Miami Woman During Ride. Passenger Now Plans to Sue Rideshare Company

News - Thu, 05/15/2025 - 21:46

A Miami woman said she plans to take legal action against Uber after a driver pulled a gun on her during a ride, prompting the rideshare company to remove the driver from the app and launch an investigation of their own.

Krissy Celess, a rising Miami rapper who goes by Bomb Ass Krissy, told WSVN that she and a friend ordered the Uber Monday night and were headed to the Hollywood area from north Miami.

Celess said that when they were approaching the end of the ride, she tried to point the driver toward their destination.

“I said, ‘Hey, the turn is right here. You’re going to make a left.’ And she was in the middle lane and she was like, ‘Oh, you don’t have to tell me.’ It just escalated so quickly,” Celess explained.

Celess filmed the heated encounter with the female Uber driver and posted the video on her Instagram account, which showed the driver on the phone with a 911 dispatcher while repeatedly ordering her to get out of the car.

“You’re harassing me. Get out of my vehicle now!” the female Uber driver yelled in the video. “You’re no longer in the ride.”

“She got them crazy eyes,” Celess responded.

“Get out!” the driver shouts as she pulls out a gun and points it at Celess.

Celess said she also called the cops and plans on filing a lawsuit against Uber.

“I would argue that the Uber driver was extremely aggressive, and the reaction of pulling a gun was extremely excessive,” said attorney Carlos Dominguez, who is representing both passengers. “You know, emotions can sometimes spur out of control because of a simple disagreement, but those disagreements do not necessitate a firearm to be pointed at you.”

In a statement to WSVN, Uber said, “This is extremely concerning. We removed the driver’s access to the app and are continuing to investigate.”

Uber’s policy dictates that drivers are not allowed to carry weapons while using the Uber platform.

No one was hurt during the incident, and police are investigating. Atlanta Black Star has reached out to Hollywood Police for more details.

“Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Simply shocking. I mean, you get the first-person perspective of having a gun pointed at you,” Dominguez said.

Celess stated that she wants “justice to be served” in this case.

“I don’t want anything like that to happen to anybody else. Oh, my God, I’m shaking right now,” said Celess.

Buffalo Mass Shooter’s Attorneys Argue That One Federal Hate Crime Charge Should Be Dismissed Because Other Black People In the Vicinity Weren’t Killed Too, Judge Rejects Claim

News - Thu, 05/15/2025 - 21:11

A federal judge denied a motion to dismiss one of the hate crime charges filed against the man who gunned down 10 Black people in a racially motivated mass shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.

Payton Gendron is currently serving a life sentence without parole after pleading guilty in New York state court to 10 counts of first-degree murder and a single count of domestic terrorism motivated by hate. He was the first person ever to be convicted of domestic terrorism in the state of New York.

BUFFALO, NEW YORK – MAY 19: Payton Gendron arrives for a hearing at the Erie County Courthouse on May 19, 2022 in Buffalo, New York. Gendron is accused of killing 10 people and wounding another 3 during a shooting at a Tops supermarket on May 14 in Buffalo. The attack was believed to be motivated by racial hatred. (Photo by Scott Olson/Getty Images)

Gendron was arrested after storming into a Tops supermarket in east Buffalo, which boasted a large Black clientele, and opening fire on numerous shoppers on May 14, 2022.

The then-18-year-old donned body armor and camouflage and used an assault rifle he had illegally purchased and illegally modified during his shooting spree that he live-streamed.

Now, federal prosecutors and Gendron’s defense team are gearing up for a federal trial in which Gendron could face the death penalty. The federal 27-count indictment Gendron faces includes more than a dozen hate crime charges.

Gendron’s legal team previously filed a motion to dismiss the 27th count of the indictment, which alleges that Gendron attempted to kill or maim other Black people who were in and around the supermarket but they weren’t harmed in the shooting.

Court documents reveal that defense attorneys contested that the argument spelled out in the count was too vague. They argued that individuals to whom the count applies should be clearly named and identified instead of being unnamed and only grouped by the term “Black people.”

U.S. District Judge Lawrence Vilardo rejected the motion, ruling that the count does refer to a specific group of people.

“The government responds that count 27 ‘clearly delineate[s] a discrete class of victims: the Black people who were present in and around Tops during [Gendron]’s mass shooting,’ so there is no ambiguity about the intended victims’ identities,” the court filings read, according to WIVB.

Authorities found several racist writings and journals Gendron kept that revealed he planned the massacre for months and was motivated by a racist, far-right conspiracy known as replacement theory, which proposes the idea that minorities are gradually replacing white Americans.

Gendron’s attorneys have been swinging for small wins ahead of their client’s federal trial.

They filed a separate motion requesting the judge to dismiss the use of the Hate Crime Act, claiming it was unconstitutional because Gendron had already been prosecuted under New York’s hate crime statute. They also submitted other motions requesting the judge to delay the trial a full year and to dismiss the death penalty as a potential sentence in the federal case.

The judge rejected all of those motions.

Jury questionnaires for Gendron’s federal trial are set to begin in October. Jury selection is slated for January 2026.

Georgia Hospital Sent Pregnant Black Woman Home Despite Severe Headaches; Now She’s Brain Dead and State Law Is Forcing Her to Give Birth Without the Family’s Permission

News - Thu, 05/15/2025 - 16:03

Adriana Smith lay in an Atlanta hospital bed on life support for more than three months after suffering multiple blood clots in her brain, rendering her brain dead. She is also pregnant, with several more weeks to go. Her grieving family members say she’s being kept alive only to give birth, and claim they’ve been stripped of their legal right to make decisions about her care due to Georgia’s strict abortion laws.

In all 50 states, when a person is declared brain dead by medical professionals, it means they are legally dead, and loved ones may seek a court order to remove the patient from life support if there’s no DNR (“do not resuscitate”) order in place. But not in this case.

Georgia’s 2019 Heartbeat Law, known as the Living Infants Fairness and Equality Act, makes it a crime to intervene in a pregnancy after about six weeks or until a heartbeat is detected. There are a few exceptions to the ban, however — rape, incest, and notably when the mother’s life is at risk.

Apparently, Smith’s vegetative state does not qualify. Her unusual situation presents a legal gray area, making the months that have passed “torture” for her and her family.

“She’s been breathing through machines for more than 90 days,” her mother, April Newkirk, told local news outlet 11Alive. “It’s torture for me. I see my daughter breathing, but she’s not there. And her son — I bring him to see her.”

Newkirk said the family might not have chosen to end the pregnancy but they feel the decision was theirs to make. The fetus has an undetermined amount of fluid on its brain, and concerns about the unborn child’s health weigh on Smith’s loved ones. “She’s pregnant with my grandson. But he may be blind, may not be able to walk, may not survive once he’s born,” Newkirk told the outlet.

“This decision should’ve been left to us. Now we’re left wondering what kind of life he’ll have— and we’re going to be the ones raising him,” she added. The potential costs of ongoing medical care for her grandson add another layer of worry.

Doctors want to keep Smith alive via intensive life-sustaining treatments until the baby can survive outside the womb, which doctors estimate will be another 11 weeks. Right now, Smith is 21 weeks pregnant.

“They’re hoping to get the baby to at least 32 weeks,” Newkirk said. “But every day that goes by, it’s more cost, more trauma, more questions.”

In early February, Smith, who is a registered nurse at Emory University Hospital, was nearing her ninth week of pregnancy when she experienced intense headaches. She checked into Northside Hospital in Atlanta but was released without having any tests or a CT scan, her mother told reporters. “They gave her some medication,” she said, but it took two hospital transfers before a CT scan was finally done, revealing the deadly blood clots.

“If they had done that or kept her overnight, they would have caught it. It could have been prevented,” lamented her mother. The morning after Smith was first released, she awoke at home struggling to breathe, and her panicked boyfriend, hearing gurgling sounds, called 911. This time, she was taken to Emory Decatur and then moved again to her workplace, Emory University Hospital, where they ran a CT scan and discovered the clots in her brain. “They asked me if I would agree to a procedure to relieve the pressure, and I said yes,” Newkirk said. “Then they called me back and said they couldn’t do it.” It was too late.

Recently, on May 13, Smith was transferred yet another time to a fourth hospital, Emory Midtown, because they have better obstetric care, the doctors told Newkirk. Throughout the ordeal and multiple hospitals, her family has visited her every day, including her young son, who believes his mother is just sleeping.

“I think every woman should have the right to make their own decision,” Newkirk said. “And if not, then their partner or their parents.”

‘She’s Old Enough to Be His Daughter’: Robert De Niro, 81, Turns Heads In Cannes as Trolls Zoom In on His Longtime Girlfriend

News - Thu, 05/15/2025 - 15:58

Hollywood icon Robert De Niro turned heads at the 78th Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday, May 13—not just for his storied film career, but for the spotlight-stealing attention surrounding the 36-year age gap between him and his girlfriend.

The 81-year-old actor, who was being honored with the coveted Honorary Palme d’Or award for lifetime achievement, arrived hand-in-hand with Tiffany Chen, a 45-year-old martial arts professional.

The couple made a rare appearance at the Palais des Festival’s photo call, with De Niro in a dark-gray suit jacket and Chen in a strapless white dress with a cream cardigan. With her dark hair pulled back, Chen stood confidently beside the legendary actor as they posed for photographs on the opening day of the festival.

“I have such close feelings for Festival de Cannes,” De Niro said in a statement, according to Variety.

“Especially now when there’s so much in the world pulling us apart, Cannes brings us together — storytellers, filmmakers, fans, and friends. It’s like coming home,” his statement added.

He wore a black tux while Chen sported a black sparkly gown with her hair pulled back into a ponytail during the festival’s opening ceremony, where his longtime friend Leonardo DiCaprio presented him with the prestigious award.

The two co-starred in the 1993 film “This Boy’s Life,” and reunited again for “Killers of the Flower Moon” in 2023.

But online, many only talked about the significant age difference between De Niro and Chen, igniting a flurry of commentary on social media. Daily Mail readers weighed in with mixed views.

“She’s old enough to be his daughter… Totally gross,” wrote one commenter, while another replied, “you better make it a granddaughter!”

Some observers focused on Chen’s appearance rather than the age gap, with one person remarking, “The oldest looking 45 year old.”

Meanwhile, others took a more celebratory, if crude, approach to De Niro’s late-in-life fatherhood, with one X user tweeting, “That a boy Bobby.. pump babies in her.”

De Niro and Chen’s relationship began after they met on the set of his 2015 film “The Intern.”

The pair first sparked romance rumors when spotted holding hands during a vacation in France in 2021. Their relationship reached a milestone in April 2023 when they welcomed their daughter, Gia, making De Niro one of Hollywood’s oldest new fathers at 80.

The couple brought their little one out to Cannes, where she delighted many of their friends.

In a February 2025 appearance on BBC Radio 2, the “Goodfellas” star revealed how fatherhood has transformed his entertainment habits. Rather than catching up on Oscar contenders, he now finds himself immersed in children’s programming like “The Wiggles” and “Ms. Rachel.”

“I didn’t know of them until I started seeing them, and my daughter loves to watch them,” he shared. “They’re great…They have a lot of energy.”

Earlier in January 2023, De Niro spoke candidly to AARP The Magazine about his experience as an octogenarian father.

“I’m an 80-year-old dad, and it’s great,” he said about his baby with Chen. “Everything that I’m consumed with or worried about just goes away when I look at [Gia]. So that in itself is, you know, wondrous.”

Gia joins De Niro’s six older children — Drena, 53, Raphael, 48, twins Julian and Aaron, 29, Elliot, 26, and Helen, 13 — all of whom are biracial, born to his previous partners Diahnne Abbott, Toukie Smith, and Grace Hightower. During a 2020 appearance on “The Tonight Show,” De Niro acknowledged his privilege in raising biracial children amid that summer’s racial reckoning.

“My children are all half Black, and I don’t have, even me, I take certain things for granted,” De Niro admitted. “When people say that they tell their kids, ‘Keep your hands [out] when you’re stopped by any cops, keep your hands on the steering wheel, don’t make a sudden move,’ you understand that. That’s scary. That has to change.”

Recent reports claim that the actor’s family dynamics have grown complicated by inheritance plans that allegedly favor his youngest children, particularly Gia. Despite family drama and public scrutiny, De Niro continues to thrive professionally, with his recent appearance in Netflix’s “Zero Day” and six more projects reportedly in development.

The 78th Cannes Film Festival runs from May 12 through May 24, with De Niro’s award ceremony marking just the beginning of the prestigious event’s celebrations.

‘As Big of a Jerk As I Heard You Are’: MAGA Sheriff Gets an Earful After Lecturing State Trooper Who Pulled Him Over for Speeding

News - Thu, 05/15/2025 - 15:14

It’s obvious that Canadian County, Oklahoma, Sheriff Chris West felt inconvenienced as he waited on a state trooper to write him a warning for speeding on May 2 just outside Oklahoma City limits.

Just a few days earlier, the controversial lawman had been in the Oval Office, flanking President Donald Trump as he signed a new executive order promising free private legal protection for police officers accused of wrongdoing on the job. People like him don’t get tickets, he attempts to explain to the unnamed trooper, who had pulled him over for driving 58 mph in a 45 mph zone.

“My intent was just to write you a warning,” the trooper told the sheriff, whom he had already recognized. “Can I go back and write you a warning?”

The sheriff asked him if that was necessary. “I’d rather there not be anything documented,” the sheriff responded.

“Nothing documented? Is it an election year?” the trooper deadpanned.

At that point the sheriff showed his true colors, dissmissing the trooper and telling him, condescendingly, “Go get your piece of paper.”

A few minutes later, the trooper returned to Sheriff West’s driver’s side window, document in hand.

“My intent was just to write you a warning from the start,” he said.

The sheriff responded with a mini-lecture.

“Well, here’s my deal,” he said. “You know, I’m a retired trooper. I never did this. When I stopped cops, as soon as I found out… (inaudible)”

“You could just not speed,” the trooper said, not missing a beat.

West went on to claim he was in a county vehicle and was working at the time.

“No different than you going somewhere else,” he said. “Listen, I’m not going to call your chief and complain.”

Oklahoma City Police later confirmed that West was apparently not being truthful. He had no emergency equipment activated, which raises doubts about whether he was actually on duty as he maintained.

Tensions grew when West implied the trooper lacked “professional courtesy.”

“Well, just as ‘professional’ and ‘courtesy,’ you’re as big of a jerk as I heard you are,” the trooper countered. “Have a better day.”

Not surprisingly, West declined to comment when asked about the incident by Fox 25 in Oklahoma City. He said the video spoke for itself, which it most certainly did.

West was first elected Canadian County sheriff in 2016. He courted controversy when he attended the Jan. 6, 2021, rally at the U.S. Capitol but said it was right as a private citizen to attend the rally, which quickly devolved into a violent insurrection. West said he did not take part in the riot.

He later proposed a ‘Sheriff’s Posse’ — a would-be “rapid-response” team of civilian volunteers tasked with defending property. The idea never graduated past the proposal stage.

While most readers of the article sided with the clever trooper, others found it difficult to choose sides.

“Tyrant vs. tyrant, I love it,” wrote one reader.

And some found the trooper to be a bit of a stickler.

“58 in a 45!? Along the Eastern seaboard, south of Virginia, you will not get stopped unless you are doing more than 15 over…. That’s 60 in a 45,” opined one commenter.
