Trump’s GOP Starts to Fracture: MAGA Allies Turn on ‘Beautiful’ Bill They Didn’t Read, Slam Spending as ‘Abomination’ and Power Grab

Wed, 06/04/2025 - 12:49

Cracks are beginning to show in the united front Republicans and MAGA voters usually display toward President Donald Trump as criticism over his “One Big Beautiful Bill” grows louder.

Some Republican lawmakers are even breaking ranks and beginning to distance themselves from Trump’s enormous spending measure that the House passed right before Memorial Day last month.

SpaceX and Tesla billionaire Elon Musk exploded on social media Tuesday after saying last week that the bill undermined the work he did at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk, a former senior adviser to the president and a massive Republican campaign donor, called the legislation a “disgusting abomination.”

“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” Musk wrote on his social media platform X. “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

And he’s not alone

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, a libertarian and a Trump supporter, has voiced his disapproval with the measure since it passed in the House.

“Once this bill votes, and this debt ceiling goes through, the debt is owned by the GOP, and there is no more campaigning and saying ‘This is the Democrats,’” Paul said in an interview on CNBC.

“It will be owned by the Republicans, and I think that’s a huge mistake,” he added.

Trump couldn’t stand the criticism and hit back, blasting Paul on his Truth Social platform. “Rand votes NO on everything, but never has any practical or constructive ideas. His ideas are actually crazy (losers!). The people of Kentucky can’t stand him. This is a BIG GROWTH BILL!”

Even Trump sycophant Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene jumped on the bandwagon. Greene embarrassingly admitted that while she voted for the measure, she didn’t actually read the “One Big Beautiful Bill” and was surprised by a section on artificial intelligence.

“Full transparency, I did not know about this section … that strips states of the right to make laws or regulate AI for 10 years. I am adamantly OPPOSED to this and it is a violation of state rights and I would have voted NO if I had known this was in there,” Greene posted on X.

Trump also spent time on his Truth Social platform on Monday defending his giant spending plan. “So many false statements are being made about “THE ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,” but what nobody understands is that it’s the single biggest Spending Cut in History, by far!”

But the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has given a preliminary projection that estimates the cost of the mammoth measure in the trillions of dollars. Among other provisions for border security and the military, the plan would make huge cuts to Medicaid and food assistance programs while extending Trump’s first-term tax cuts, which benefit the wealthiest Americans the most.

The legislative package also extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, boosts defense spending by $150 billion. It includes a 10-year ban on state AI laws, rolls back clean energy tax credits, raises the SALT deduction cap from $10,000 to $40,000, and limits judges’ contempt powers.
The bill passed narrowly (215–214–1) and is now headed to the Senate, where it’s expected to undergo changes. Trump has been urging Congress to send him the bill before the Fourth of July.

L.A. Deputy Who Bodyslammed Black Woman, Pinned Knee on Her Neck, and Pepper-Sprayed Her for Filming Arrest to Only Serve Four Months In Prison After Trump Ally Intervenes

Wed, 06/04/2025 - 12:00

A former Los Angeles County deputy facing 10 years in prison will instead only serve four months following intervention from an unlikely source.

It wasn’t Trevor Kirk’s lawyers who secured the much lighter sentence after the judge agreed to drop the felony count of deprivation of rights under color of law. He did so at the request of the Justice Department, which prosecuted the case.

Confused? Well, even though the prosecutors didn’t change, and no new evidence had surfaced that might lead to a different outcome, the new interim U.S. Attorney for Los Angeles, Bill Essayli, a loyal Trump ally, seemed more sympathetic to the defense. Kirk’s reduced sentence wouldn’t have happened had Essayli not ordered his prosecutors to offer Kirk a misdemeanor plea deal even though they had already secured his felony conviction.

A month earlier, Essayli offered the deputy, who was fired by the county, a plea deal that would reduce his sentence from 10 years to one year.

Several prosecutors in the L.A. office resigned in protest, while police watchdogs were left to wonder whether law enforcement would be held accountable in cases involving excessive force.

“In my view, the jury verdict was fully supported and the case was not unfairly argued, as the government at some early point argued,” Judge Steven V. Wilson said after handing down his sentence. “The job of a police officer is a very difficult one … but with those factors in mind, there is a responsibility to act appropriately.”

Kirk’s case dates back to June 2023, when the deputy and his partner Kirk and his partner detained a man who matched the description of a suspected robber at the WinCo Foods grocery store.

A female shopper, identified by prosecutors as J.H., witnessed the man’s apprehension and pulled out her cellphone to record it. She advised Kirk that he could not hold the suspect until he gave him a legal basis for his arrest.

Kirk responded angrily, as observed on bodycam video. In court, the prosecution outlined the interaction, telling jurors Kirk approached J.H. and tried to grab her phone without her permission. As she turned away, the now ex-deputy grabbed her arm, hooked his left hand behind her neck, and tossed her to the ground, face first.

But he didn’t stop there. Kirk held the woman down by placing his knee on her shoulder, and when she begged him to stop, he responded by cocking his right arm back and producing a clenched fist, along with a warning: “Stop or you’re gonna get punched in the face,” according to prosecutors.

The woman continued to struggle, telling Kirk she couldn’t breathe. Without warning, Kirk repeatedly pepper-sprayed J.H. in the face while his knee remained pressed against her neck. He was also concocting a false narrative, telling his fellow deputies on his police radio that he had been involved in a fight with the woman, who was treated for head trauma caused by blunt force and other injuries to her head, arms, and wrist.

Jurors reached a verdict after only an hour of deliberations. The assault was captured on video, leaving the defense with little wriggle room. So why would Essayli undermine what had been a successful prosecution?

Many observers believe he was just acting on orders from President Donald Trump, even though the U.S. Attorney’s office is supposed to act totally independently of the executive branch. In March, speaking to a joint session of Congress, the president vowed to give police officers nationwide “the support, protection and respect they so dearly deserve.”

“They have to get it. They have such a hard, dangerous job,” Trump said. “But we’re going to make it less dangerous. The problem is the bad guys don’t respect the law, but they’re starting to respect it, and they soon will respect it.”

Later in his speech, Trump called on Congress to pass a new crime bill aimed at “getting tougher on repeat offenders while enhancing protections for America’s police officers so they can do their jobs without fear of their lives being totally destroyed.”

Trump also recently signed a somewhat vague executive order that he vowed would serve to “unleash” law enforcement.

The president didn’t say how pardoning the Jan. 6 rioters who attacked Capitol police as they gained entry into the Capitol building demonstrated “support, protection, and respect.”

Tom Yu, an attorney representing Kirk, said the defense plans to appeal Wilson’s earlier denial of their motion for an acquittal.

‘So Disappointing’: Carrie Underwood Goes Silent on Social Media Amid Talk of Her Removal from ‘American Idol’ After Jamal Roberts Interaction

Wed, 06/04/2025 - 11:15

Carrie Underwood seems to have mysteriously vanished from social media, leaving her Instagram account untouched for four days following intense backlash over her treatment of the first Black male winner “American Idol” in over two decades. The former “Idol” champion, who returned to judge the competition 20 years after her own victory, now finds herself at the center of a controversy that has fans calling for her removal from the show’s panel.

The drama began during the May 18 finale when elementary school teacher Jamal Roberts was crowned the 2025 “American Idol” winner, earning a record-breaking 26 million votes.

While fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan celebrated with standing ovations, viewers noticed something troubling: Underwood remained conspicuously seated during Roberts’ final performance of Anthony Hamilton’s “Her Heart,” a moment that would later ignite widespread criticism about her apparent lack of support for the Mississippi native.

The backlash intensified on social media, with critics flooding Underwood’s May 31 Instagram post with pointed accusations. In addition to this being her last post, her team has limited the comments.

“Why are you deleting comments? Oh I know. Because you’re being called out,” one person asked, suggesting the singer was actively removing negative feedback.

Another commenter dubbed her “Karen underworld,” while others launched into broader political attacks, writing, “The country has voted & you’re OUT. You can’t possibly go through life being this dense and disconnected. The Affordable Care Act is great for many Americans. I don’t have it but I know because I CARE to know. Also President Obama is a smart & very accomplished man, something you could never have. He’s still doing great things. Meanwhile your buddies lack intelligence and are sitting on stages making unfunny jokes abt someone smarter than you.”

Perhaps the most cutting comment was the simple: “Ah, so disappointing.”

The controversy deepened when details emerged about Underwood’s interactions with Roberts throughout the season.

During one performance, she criticized the winner for missing an opportunity to “move around and entertain” while singing Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” The situation became increasingly uncomfortable when Underwood revealed she had named a baby lamb on her Tennessee farm “Jamal” in honor of Roberts, a gesture that many interpreted as tone-deaf given the mounting tension surrounding her treatment of the contestant.

Roberts himself addressed the situation during a recent interview with “The Morning Hustle Show,” where he diplomatically highlighted the stark difference in treatment between judges.

While acknowledging that both Underwood and Bryan are country singers, Roberts noted that Bryan provided complete support throughout his journey. He also revealed telling his manager about Underwood’s “swag” comment, which came after he performed in front of the judges. According to Underwood, he didn’t work the stage and didn’t have the “swag” she was looking for. Roberts was surprised by the statement, considering other contestants received golden tickets while wearing “cowboy boots” and “overalls,” highlighting what many saw as an obvious double standard.

Underwood’s current social media silence may not represent retreat but rather a deliberate strategy she’s developed over the years.

The 42-year-old singer has previously discussed her “post and ghost” approach to platforms like Instagram, a technique she credits to Joe Rogan.

“It’s really important when you think about social media that you realize it’s not the real world,” she explained to E! News, describing how she learned to prioritize her real-life responsibilities over online criticism.

The mother of two sons, Isaiah and Jacob, with husband Mike Fisher, has expressed that her focus remains on raising “good humans” rather than worrying about public opinion.

“I’m 42 years old. I’ve got two kids I’m trying to raise to be good humans. I’m just out there doing the best I can, so if I want to post something, I’m just going to do it and leave it there,” she stated, reflecting a mindset developed through years of navigating public scrutiny.

Yet this controversy feels different from typical celebrity social media drama.

Underwood’s return to American Idol was meant to celebrate her journey from unknown contestant to country music royalty. Instead, her tenure as judge has become overshadowed by questions about fairness, representation, politics, and whether her 2005 victory makes her qualified to mentor the show’s artists in 2025.

As calls for her removal from the judging panel grow louder, Underwood’s silence speaks volumes about the gravity of the situation, leaving fans and critics alike wondering whether this social media break represents damage control or a permanent step back from the controversy that is the ugly stain on her return to American Idol.

‘Pointed It Towards Them’: Colorado Councilman Who Shot Teen In Face Through the Windshield After Claiming His Gun Just ‘Went Off’ Refused to Resign, Council Voted Him Out Instead

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 22:30

A Colorado town councilman was ousted from office last week after he allegedly shot a 17-year-old in the face during a confrontation over trespassing.

Brent John Metz, 39, was removed from the Mountain View Town Council following a special recall election on May 20. The vote, which saw 127 residents support the recall and 72 oppose it, came months after Metz was charged in connection with a September 2024 shooting that left a teenager seriously injured. Council candidate Ryan Debner was elected to replace him.

Metz, a registered Republican, pleaded not guilty in April to four felony charges: second-degree assault (reckless causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon), two counts of felony menacing, and illegal discharge of a firearm. He is currently out on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on June 23. Prosecutors and defense attorneys are in ongoing discussions over a potential plea agreement.

The charges stem from an incident on Sept. 11, 2024, in the Conifer area, where Metz lives with his girlfriend and fellow Mountain View council member Brittany Loecher.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, two teenagers were looking for a scenic location to take homecoming photos and approached Metz’s lakefront property, valued at nearly $1.5 million.

The teens parked their white Audi outside the property’s gate and walked up the driveway to request permission to take photos. When no one answered the door, they returned to the car and began writing a note for the homeowner.

Loecher spotted the teens and called both police and Metz to report trespassing. Metz arrived first, pulling up in his black GMC Sierra beside the Audi to block it in. According to the arrest affidavit, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound councilman exited his vehicle, approached the teens, “pulled a handgun from his holster and pointed it towards them.”

Moments later, a gunshot rang out, the windshield shattered, and Metz allegedly said, “Oh sh—, my gun went off.”

A Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy responded minutes later and found the teenage victim “bleeding heavily from his face,” with “blood running down his arm” and a white t-shirt pressed to his face. The affidavit noted, “The right corner of his mouth appeared to be missing flesh and he also had [wounds] on both the right and left side of his nose which were actively bleeding… also had swelling around both of his eyes.”

The teen was rushed to the hospital, where doctors told deputies they believed a bullet fragment was lodged in his head. His identity has not been publicly released due to his age.

The uninjured teen told deputies he never saw the gun, only heard the shot, and didn’t believe Metz intentionally fired. He added, according to the affidavit, that Metz “tried to help him after the gun went off.” Metz remained at the scene but refused to answer whether he had fired the weapon, instead asking for a lawyer.

Former Mayor Jeff Kiddie, who played a key role in organizing the recall, said the community could not ignore the incident. “The fact that the incident happened is kind of a blight on the town,” Kiddie told Daily Mail. “To have somebody make that rash judgement, accidental or not, just the act of pulling the firearm on two teenagers? … It just doesn’t rise to that level of need.”

Kiddie said the recall committee formed only after Metz made it clear he would not resign. “We were expecting a resignation of some sort, and when it became perfectly clear that that wasn’t the case, that’s where we formed a recall committee.”

Before the election, Metz sent a letter to constituents describing the incident as “an unintentional discharge of a firearm and the injury of another person.” He added, “I am thankful that this individual appears to have quickly recovered, and I want to assure you that I never intended to harm anyone.”

Addressing questions about why he wouldn’t step down, Metz wrote, “What would you do, if you were wrongfully accused of a crime? However much easier a choice this would be, would you abandon your sworn obligation to your neighbors and community?”

Loecher, who called 911 and notified Metz of the teens’ presence, has refused to talk to the press. Instead releasing a statement through Metz’s attorney, Christopher R. Decker, who stated, “[She] is confident that Mr Mets (sic) will be found not guilty, as he is presumed, and as all the facts will be established at trial.”

Mountain View Mayor Emilie Mitcham, pictured alongside Metz and Loecher in a previous council photo, did not respond to requests for comment.

Metz was elected to the Town Council in 2023. Despite efforts to stay in office, the majority of voters ultimately chose to remove him in the wake of what many viewed as an unacceptable and violent overreaction.

‘Burn Their House Down with Them Inside’: Maryland Man Charged with Hate Crime After Allegedly Yelling Racist Slurs at Black Neighbors, Then Kicking and Attempting to Headbutt Cops as They Arrested Him

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 22:00

A Maryland man was charged with several offenses, including a hate crime, after he allegedly targeted his Black neighbors in two different incidents that took place within weeks of each other.

According to Charles County deputies, 50-year-old Michael Gerard Benedict was arrested for two separate incidents that took place on April 4 and April 28.

Michael Gerard Benedict was arrested for two hate incidents against Black people. (Photo:

On April 4, deputies were called to Benedict’s neighborhood to respond to a dispute with two of his Black neighbors, according to charging documents cited by the Southern Maryland News Net and the Longview News-Journal.

The victims told responding officers that Benedict, who is white, yelled “You stupid n—rs” and “n—rs with big lips” at them when they arrived home. Benedict then allegedly threw sticks and other objects into their yard, while shouting that he would “burn their house down with them inside.”

When deputies located Benedict, he admitted that he was involved in an argument with his neighbors and may have used a racial slur and made a comment about burning their home. He told deputies he was upset because of loud music blasting from their home and their motion-activated security cameras, which he said were always sounding off.

Benedict was charged with making threats of arson for the incident.

His neighbor petitioned for a peace order that prohibited Benedict from making contact with or harassing him or his family. A judge approved the injunction on April 8, but only weeks later, deputies were called back to Benedict’s home after he violated the order.

On April 28, the neighbor called local law enforcement to report that Benedict had, once again, started yelling the N-word and other insults at him and his family when they arrived home from an outing that day.

The victim reported that he feared for his and his family’s safety due to their previous encounters with Benedict.

When officers arrived, they found Benedict sitting in his driveway. Court documents say the 50-year-old ignored multiple commands police made, then tried to grab two officers’ firearms, and physically resisted arrest.

The altercation reportedly escalated when Benedict kicked a sergeant, attempted to bite another officer’s hand, and then tried headbutting two other officers, charging documents say. When he was finally subdued and taken to a patrol car, he allegedly yelled more obscenities toward the victim’s property.

He was charged with three counts of second-degree assault on law enforcement officers, resisting arrest, committing a race/religion-based crime against a person, and failing to comply with a peace order.

He is being held in a local jail without bond.

‘Made Them Kids a Pot of Foolishness’: Outrage Erupts After Chrissy Teigen’s Kids Refuse to Eat Her Disastrous Cooking and Grossed-Out Fans Zoom In on Unexpected Ingredients

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 21:35

Chrissy Teigen is back in the kitchen, much to her critics’ and children’s dismay. The “Cravings” cookbook author tried her hand at whipping up a quick and easy meal for her toddlers, Esti, 2, and Wren, 1, that turned out to be a total disaster.

In June 2 Instagram Story posts, the model recorded herself making a pot of macaroni and cheese, but with a few extra ingredients: broccoli and a meat that resembled cubed hot dogs or ham.

Two of Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s kids have a tantrum and refuse to eat her cooking. (Photos: Chrissyteigen/Instagram.)

She captioned the completed dish: “Broccoli should go over well.” Teigen’s remark foreshadowed the disappointment and meltdown that ensued after plating the food.

The first reaction came from Wren. His attempt to stomach the meal included placing the broccoli on the table. He also seemed to struggle with the macaroni shells that he pulled from his mouth and flung on the floor.

Big sister Esti was especially distraught over the feast. “I don’t like it, I don’t like it, I don’t like it!” she repeatedly exclaimed. Teigen remained off camera, but her groans of defeat spoke volumes.

Social media users hardly had Teigen’s back as several agreed that the dish was a “struggle meal.”

“Smh made them kids a pot of foolishness,” read one reaction. A second user commented, “She forgot her kids were black , we eat with our eyes first.” Two others quipped that she “had those babies in distress!!!!” and “They were pissed tf off.”

Countless people called her out for failing to shred the vegetable so that it would go undetected. Meanwhile, others expressed sympathy for her husband, writing, “Poor John legend.”

The “Chrissy’s Court” star has a track record of hits and misses in the kitchen. She often includes her and John Legend’s eldest children, Luna, 9, and Miles, 7, in the mix. The “All of Me” crooner is currently on tour and missed out on the latest dinnertime blunder.

However, the family moments have been scrutinized. In one instance, the mother of four was blasted for poor hygiene practices when fans noticed Luna sitting on the counter with her “dirty feet” near food that was being prepared.

Teigen also came under fire around Christmas 2024. She was accused of willingly feeding her kids “poison” by those who were upset she provided candy, such as Fruit Roll-Ups and Kit-Kats, as a snack. The criticism, however, has not deterred Teigen from continuing to share her life on social media.

‘Move all the Black People to This Weird-Shaped Blob Thing’: Texas Judge Boldly Declares He Wants More Republicans In County, Pushes Redistricting Plan to Do it

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 20:17

Republicans in Tarrant County, Texas, are quickly pushing a redistricting plan that would dilute the voting power of Black people in this north central region of the state that includes Fort Worth and Arlington.

The Tarrant County Commissioners Court is scheduled to vote on the controversial political map that would change district boundary lines on June 3 after just nine weeks of study. The process usually takes months to assess the impact of redrawing voting districts.

Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare (Photo:arrantcountytx.gov)

The top Republican judge on the Commissioners Court, Tim O’Hare, has boldly declared the move is most definitely political in nature.

“Give me a map that guarantees three Republican commissioners’ seats,” he said, according to CBS News Texas. “That’s what I’ve asked for.”

Two Democratic commissioners and two Republican commissioners currently sit on the Commissioners Court with O’Hare in the court’s top position. County officials, civil rights and voting rights advocates and voters have all criticized the move, accusing O’Hare and Republicans of racial gerrymandering.

O’Hare isn’t making any effort at hiding his intentions and even agrees with critics, CBS reported. “This is about partisan politics. You can legally in this country, according to the U.S. Supreme Court, draw maps for partisan purposes. So, for me, it’s 100% about partisan politics,” O’Hare acknowledged.

The four commissioners on the court each represent one precinct, with Judge O’Hare representing the whole county. The new redistricting maps would essentially reshape the two Democratic districts, creating a more Republican district out of one of them by packing the other with more non-white voters. That would make it harder for one of the Democratic commissioners to win re-election.

And that’s exactly what the Republicans on the court want.  “My entire goal, my entire purpose, my entire intention, is to allow Tarrant County to go from three Republicans, two Democrats on the commissioners court, to four Republicans, one Democrat,” KERA News reported Commissioner Matt Krause said at a public hearing last month.

The mayors of Tarrant County’s 10 largest cities are opposed to the plan. The top officials from Fort Worth, Arlington, Grand Prairie, South Lake and others have signed a letter asking the court to wait until the 2030 census to consider redistricting plans, KERA News reported.

But O’Hare says he won’t wait, that he’s following through on a campaign promise. “This is something that I campaigned on dating back to 2021 — that this would be the time where we would look at redistricting,” he told CBS News Texas.

“I think two months has been plenty of time,” O’Hare said. “If you don’t want it to change, I understand why you say that. But people have had plenty of opportunity to weigh in, look at it, become aware and participate. And we’ve had hundreds of people submit emails, comments, show up in person. I think the word is out.”

A post by an opponent on the social media platform Reddit summed it up this way: “If we move all the black people to this weird-shaped blob thing, they’ll stop electing democrats.”

Democratic Commissioner Alissa Simmons of Precinct 2 would have a tough time winning re-election if the plan goes through because it impacts her district.

“This is not just a minority issue, it’s a community issue,” Simmons told the news outlet The Short Horn. “It’s an attack on our values, on good governance and on the wallets of hardworking families across our county.”

State Rep. Chris Turner says the redistricting map is illegal, that it violates the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

“A mid-decade redistricting is a completely unnecessary, foolish endeavor that will undoubtedly expose Tarrant County taxpayers to costly litigation,” he said.

The Hits Keep Coming As Trump Administration Moves to End $37 Billion Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program That Helped Black Entrepreneurs, Saying It’s Unconstitutional

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 19:34

The Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program, a four-decade-old $37 billion effort aimed at helping businesses owned by underrepresented groups, such as people of color and women, compete in areas where they have historically been shut out, could be permanently shuttered under a proposed Trump administration settlement with the Department of Transportation.

President Donald Trump’s Justice Department has sided with two Indiana businesses in a 2023 lawsuit against DOT contending the DBE program is “discriminatory.” It’s another blow in Trump’s war against policies that help disadvantaged groups in education, business and public service and part of the administration’s larger efforts at banning diversity, equity and inclusion programs in government and the private sector.

Mid-America Milling Company and Bagshaw Trucking Inc. sued DOT, describing DBE in the original complaint as “the largest, and perhaps oldest affirmative action program in U.S. history,” as The Independent reported. The suit also claimed the program’s “goals” were in fact “discriminatory barriers” targeting undesignated racial groups, including white Americans.

The complaint said, “The word ‘disadvantaged’ is simply code for women and certain minorities,” and that “Disfavored racial groups must compete with the preferred racial groups on an unequal footing.”

The suit demanded DOT close it down “because the DBE program violates the Constitution’s ‘promise of equal treatment.’”

Congress enacted the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program in 1983 to, among other objectives, help remove barriers in competing for DOT-assisted contracts, promoting the use of DBE in all federal contracts and procurement activities and making sure only businesses that meet the eligibility requirements can participate.

The program serves 49,000 small businesses and helps them compete on an equal footing for more than $750 billion in government contracts. It’s been reauthorized by Congress ever since. Although the federal government funds it, it is administered by states. The Independent reported that DBE allocates at least 10 percent of government funding for transportation infrastructure to contracting firms.

The Justice Department, in a motion this week, agreed with the plaintiffs that DBE is unconstitutional because it does not treat all companies the same.

“Over the past five decades, the federal government imposed a policy of race discrimination in the roadbuilding industry,” Dan Lennington, deputy counsel at the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty, a conservative nonprofit law firm representing Mid-America Milling and Bagshaw Trucking, argued, according to INC.

“Thousands of workers and small businesses have been victimized, and hundreds of billions have been spent, distorting the market and inflating construction costs for the taxpayers. That ends now,” Lennington said.

Under the Biden administration, DOT rejected the lawsuit last January, saying no DOT construction contracts contained “race or gender-based subcontracting goals due to the DOT DBE program.”

But in DOJ’s filing Wednesday, the administration said, in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling in 2023 blocking race-based admissions to colleges and universities, it had “re-evaluated its position.”

The Justice Department said in its filing that DOT “upon review of the DBE program and their position in this litigation, has determined that the program’s use of race- and sex-based presumptions is unconstitutional.”

This may not be the end of DBE, though, because a coalition of groups represented by the progressive public interest law firm Democracy Forward are fighting to have the Trump administration order struck down on the grounds it’s illegal.

‘Why He Hasn’t Been Fired Yet?’: FEMA Chief Told Staff He Didn’t Know the U.S. Had a Hurricane Season as Forecasters Predict Strong Season with 10 Named Storms

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 18:15

The acting director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency stunned staffers during a meeting Monday when he said he didn’t realize there was an annual hurricane season in the U.S., which started on Sunday.

The Department of Homeland Security has since defended Administrator David Richardson, saying in a statement that he was joking when he said he wasn’t aware of the upcoming hurricane season.

Reuters first reported the comment, citing four unnamed sources, who said Richardson’s remark that he wasn’t aware of hurricane season caused confusion because it was unclear if her was serious or joking.

“Despite meanspirited attempts to falsely frame a joke as policy, there is no uncertainty about what FEMA will be doing this Hurricane Season. FEMA is laser-focused on disaster response and protecting the American people,” a spokesperson for DHS said, according to a report by NBC News.

Richardson is “activated in preparation for Hurricane Season,” the spokesperson added.

Joking or not, the comment is not going over very well with lawmakers. Democrats lambasted Richardson on social media.

“I’m Unaware of why he hasn’t been fired yet,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a post on X.

Democratic congresswoman Jasmine Crockett of Texas also responded. “Wait WHAT? People are bracing for storms and this man just found out the weather exists?! This is what happens when you hire vibes over qualifications.”

“Bare minimum requirement for the leader of FEMA: know when hurricane season is,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar said on X.

The senior Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, which oversees FEMA, Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, also weighed in on Richardson’s comments, telling Reuters in a statement, “Suffice to say, disaster response is no joke. If you don’t know what or when hurricane season is, you’re not qualified to run FEMA. Get someone knowledgeable in there.”

Richardson, who has no experience in disaster response, was appointed acting director of FEMA in early May after the former acting administrator, Cameron Hamilton, was abruptly fired.

Although DHS had denied Hamilton was removed after disagreeing with President Donald Trump on the agency’s future, he was let go after testifying at a congressional hearing that he believes Trump should not eliminate FEMA. DHS head Kristi Noem has repeatedly said Trump wants to abolish the disaster agency.

Trump said that after natural disasters in California and North Carolina, he thinks FEMA should be shuttered.

“I think we’re going to recommend that FEMA go away,” the president said during a visit to flood-ravaged North Carolina in January, USA Today reported. Then, during a tour of Los Angeles devastated by wildfires, he said, “I say you don’t need FEMA, you need a good state government.”

The agency coordinates the federal government’s response to disasters and emergencies, such as floods, hurricanes, and wildfires. Hurricane season just started on June 1 and runs through November. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, forecasters are predicting an above-average season this year with a chance for as many as 10 hurricanes. The agency pointed to warmer temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean as the reason for its prediction.

‘Without Warning’: Unruly Passenger Who Was Kicked Off Flight Day Before Unleashing Wild Attack on TSA Officers Learns the Hard Way, Video Shows

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 18:00

A Canadian man has pleaded guilty to assaulting multiple TSA officials at the Miami International Airport for reasons unclear.

Cameron McDougall, 28, of Toronto, was on a layover in Florida Dec. 27, 2024, when the trouble started. He had allegedly struck a fellow passenger aboard a Copa Airlines flight traveling from Panama to Toronto, forcing the pilot to divert the flight to Miami, where McDougall was kicked off the plane and told to book a ticket home with another airline. McDougall booked a seat on an Air Canada flight the following day.

He was not arrested after the initial incident, which proved to be a mistake. The next morning, McDougall returned to the Miami airport and was once again seemingly consumed by rage.

After passing through a security checkpoint on Dec. 28, 2024, video shows McDougall, for reasons unclear, assaulting another passenger and then a security guard who intervened. Two minutes later, according to Fox News, McDougall returned to the screening area and targeted a TSA supervisor, swinging wildly. The supervisor dodged the punches, but another guard who had tried to restrain him was hit in the face at least three times, suffering minor injuries.

— Mike Sington (@MikeSington) May 30, 2025

At one point, he flipped over a screening bin cart, but that didn’t slow him down.

As backup arrived, McDougall continued fighting, throwing punches or attempting to punch several of the officers on duty, leading to a wild scene reminiscent of a barroom fight at an Old West tavern. McDougall was finally subdued and arrested.

The attack, said authorities, was unprovoked and came “without warning.” The complete encounter, recorded by airport security footage, was released to the public this week. And there’s nothing evident that excuses or even explains McDougall’s behavior.

McDougall pleaded guilty to two federal counts of assaulting, impeding, or resisting officers last week. He’s due to be sentenced on Friday and faces up to two years in prison.

He also faces charges, including battery, from the state of Florida for his actions at the Miami Airport. On June 2, he’s due in court to face the state charges.

‘It’s Disgusting’: Bianca Censori’s See-Through Fishnet Look In New Photos Spark Outrage Among Critics Who Claim ‘She Shows Every Inch of Her Body for Free’

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 17:33

Once again, Kanye “Ye” West’s wife is generating buzz over her racy wardrobe and her latest headline-grabbing look.

Bianca Censori, 30, uploaded new Instagram photos of herself wearing a skin-toned bodysuit and fishnet stockings on June 3. The Australian socialite made sure to highlight her bust and backside in all three pictures.

The images also depicted her apparently wearing a black durag on her head in the images as she rocked silver high heels. TMZ then published screenshots of her pics on the celebrity news outlet’s Instagram page, and commenters voiced their opinions.

“Need attention much,” one person wrote about Bianca. A second person posted, “This is just nasty….. that’s so low end… she shows every inch of her body for free… mannyyy times now. It’s old. Stop posting her.”

A third stated, “Honestly it’s disgusting, in the same time when Kim k does it it’s fashion, at least Bianca doesn’t have an ugly face. Just saying.”

Another individual suggested Censori should start working at the popular Magic City strip club in Atlanta by writing, “She should just go to Magic at this point.”

“Whaaaaat? Not Bianca, half naked, this is crazy! I would have never expected this from her. I’m actually surprised at the amount of clothes she IS wearing,” read a sarcastic comment.

The public actions of West’s wife have been a major topic of conversation throughout their marriage. The couple first tied the knot under a confidential marriage license in December 2022.

Nearly a year later, the pair sparked controversy in September 2023 when they were photographed performing, what appeared to be, lewd acts on a water taxi in Venice, Italy.

Fans are not the only ones who took issue with Censori’s clothing choices while out with her husband. West’s ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, reportedly has major concerns about their four children being around their constantly nearly-nude stepmother.

“Kim is fuming. She’d love to get a lawyer involved, but there’s not a lot she can do unless Bianca gets arrested,” an InTouch source claimed in 2024. “It’s awful, and Kim’s convinced Bianca and Kanye are purposely trying to mess with her.”

However, Bianca has never backed off from embracing risqué fashion, just like her surprise appearance at the 2025 Grammy Awards, which became yet another internet-breaking moment.

Censori and West quickly went viral after walking the prestigious music event’s red carpet. Many social media users were shocked to see Bianca pose for photos in an NSFW sheer dress.

In May 2025, Censori sported another see-through ensemble accented by a dark-colored wig and black sunglasses. She displayed that attire during an excursion to Spain with Ye.

InTouch reported that the “Gold Digger” rapper, who previously disclosed his bipolar disorder diagnosis, traveled to the European nation to receive mental health treatment.

West and Censori continue to crisscross the globe together despite rumors of marital troubles. Speculation that a divorce was on the horizon began to spread in October 2024.

By April 2025, the gossip surrounding their fractured relationship and alleged split seemed confirmed when Ye addressed their relationship in his song “BIANCA.”

“Bianca, I just want you to come back. Come back to me. I don’t know what I did to make you mad,” Ye says on the leaked track. “My baby, she ran away. But first, she tried to get me committed.”

The G.O.O.D. Music label founder resumed, “She’s having a panic attack, and she is not liking the way that I tweeted. Until Bianca’s back, I stay up all night, I’m not going to sleep.”

West, 47, has faced allegations of being controlling. One ex-girlfriend, reality television star Amber Rose, accused him of dictating what clothes his partners must put on.

“Kanye for sure is dressing her like that. He did the same thing to me and Kim,” Rose insisted when speaking about Ye and Bianca on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast.

Apparently, Kardashian is ready to support Bianca finally leaving Ye. An alleged associate of the billionaire businesswoman provided insights on the situation to RadarOnline.

“Kim has been waiting for this day,” the unknown insider said. “She knew Bianca would eventually have enough of Kanye’s garbage and want to ditch him, and she’s pouncing on the chance to team up.”

‘I Do Want to be Married’: Torrei Hart Takes a Jab at Ex-Husband Kevin Hart, Claims She Upgraded with Her New Man Years After Their Divorce

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 16:20

Love has found its way back into Torrei Hart’s life, but the idea of saying “I do” again still gives her pause.

The actress, comedian, and outspoken ex-wife of Kevin Hart, is opening up about her new relationship — and why she’s not ready to walk down the aisle just yet.

On a recent episode of her YouTube show “Brutally Honest with Torrei Hart,” the mother of two shared that she’s dating a new man and is happily in love. Her revelation came during a conversation with viral star Big Sexy.

When asked if she had someone special, Torrei replied, “I do.”

She didn’t reveal his name but described her new man as a visual artist and someone who was not as famous as her ex.

“Umm, he’s a painter,” she said. “[He makes] Murals. He designs, he creates.”

When pressed about whether she’s in love, her response was swift: “I am.”

But the conversation turned more vulnerable when the subject of marriage came up. Torrei admitted she and her boyfriend have talked about tying the knot, but she’s unsure if she’s ready to take that step again.

“We’ve had the conversation, umm, but I don’t know,” she said.

That uncertainty is rooted in her painful past, specifically her divorce from the “Jumanji” star. Big Sexy specifically asked her if she was “scared of marriage,” Torrei was direct and honest but clarified that she’s not against marriage altogether.

“I am scared of marriage,” she said, adding, “I do want to be married. I’m just scared of it.”

Part of her fear, according to the “Super Turnt” actress is connected to how her relationship with Hart fell apart.

“The first one ended in a divorce,” Torrei explained to her guest.

As she scrambled to get out of the conversation, she said that she most likely dealing with “some trauma to get over” before committing to another person that way.

Slowly, she is inching away from her stance of just two years ago, when she appeared on “The Culture Club.” Torrei and Kevin divorced in 2011 after eight years of marriage. The couple welcomed two children, a daughter named Heaven and a son, Hendrix.

While the “Soul Plane” actor went on to marry his current wife, Eniko, with whom he also shares two kids. However, Torrei has yet to remarry or be in a public relationship.

Back in 2022, she was adamant, “I just don’t see myself getting married anytime soon.”

Things have changed and so has her taste. In her recent interview, Torrei also revealed that her current relationship looks very different from her past. Physically, her new man is a contrast to her ex.

“It’s definitely different. He’s tall, number one,” she said, a detail many took note of, considering Kevin Hart is generously listed as 5 feet 5.

Financially, the new boyfriend may not match Kevin’s reputed $450 million net worth, but Torrei hinted that he still meets her standards and brings in some good money.

In previous interviews, Torrei has expressed that her views on love and marriage have evolved over the years. She married Kevin Hart when she was just 24, guided by the long-lasting relationship of her parents. She wanted to be like them.

“My parents, they got married young. They’ve been married 50-something years. They’re still married, so in my mind, I was like, ‘Ohh, that’s me. I got to be like them,'” she said.

But hindsight offered her new clarity, admitting, “I see I wasn’t ready to be married.”

Now in her 40s, Torrei is focused on living life for herself. After years of sacrificing for her marriage and raising two children, she’s embracing a chapter of personal freedom.

“I got married young, so I feel like my 20s … I was robbed of my 20s and so I’m kind of living my life reversed,” she explained. “I’m doing a lot of things now that I wish I would have done when I was younger because I sacrificed for my ex-husband, then I had kids. I sacrificed for my kids, so now is my time.”

Even as she embraces love again, Torrei is cautious about making long-term commitments. Since her divorce, she revealed she’s had two marriage proposals, but neither has resulted in a second trip down the aisle.

So now she finds herself at love’s crossroads. While she wasn’t expecting to be in love again, it seems that is where she is. And with a new show, a new relationship, and a fresh outlook on life, the future feels wide open.

‘He Shot My Daddy!’: Cop Claimed to be In Fear for His Life, But Bodycam Shows Him Move Into Harm’s Way Before Killing Ohio Man Backing Out of Driveway. Family Settles Lawsuit

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 16:00

The family of a man killed by an Ohio cop who had placed himself behind the man’s car as he was backing out before firing several shots, then claiming to have been in fear for his life, agreed to a settlement this week.

But the settlement over Michael Whitmer’s wrongful death lawsuit will remain confidential under the agreement, according to the Athens County Independent.

And the cop who shot and killed him, Cecil Morrison, was charged with misdemeanor negligent homicide, pleading no contest.

A judge found him guilty, ordering him to surrender his state law enforcement certification to avoid a jail sentence, making it impossible to ever work as a cop again in Ohio.

Whitmer’s 4-year-old son who was sitting in a car seat in the back seat was injured by flying shrapnel, mostly shattered glass, from the shooting, according to the lawsuit filed on behalf of Whitmer.

And the other cop on the scene, Nelsonville police officer KJ Tracy, was also injured by flying shrapnel.

Watch the video below.

The Shooting

The incident took place on July 27, 2021, after Nelsonville police responded to a domestic violence complaint that is described in the lawsuit as “raised voices coming from Michael’s apartment.”

Tracy arrived and parked his patrol car behind Whitmer’s car, which had been parked in the front driveway of his building, but Whitmer stepped into his car with his son and closed the door, prompting Tracy to draw his gun, ordering him out of the car, threatening to shatter the glass.

Meanwhile, Morrison, who was employed by nearby Hocking College as a police officer, arrived on the scene to assist Tracy, pulling out his own gun.

Whitmer, who was unarmed, began backing out through a small gap that had not been blocked by police, making three attempts before he was able to do so.

Morrison, who had been standing off to the side of Whitmer’s car, then ran up behind it, standing slightly to the left side of the car as it started driving away, firing several shots into the car.

According to the lawsuit filed in July 2022:

Any danger to Defendant Morrison from the backing Chevrolet sedan was a result of Defendant Morrison unreasonably and without necessity choosing to position himself behind the sedan he knew was trying to back out, rather than choosing to position himself where he could not be struck by the backing sedan.

Even after unreasonably and unnecessarily choosing to position himself behind the backing sedan, Mr. Morrison was not only able to avoid being struck by it but was able to fire six shots into the vehicle while back peddling.

Had Defendant Morrison chosen not to back peddle and shoot into the car he could even more easily have gotten out of the way of the backing car than he did.

The shots Defendant Morrison fired at Michael constituted the use of deadly force.

Defendant Morrison’s use of deadly force to seize Michael’s person was unreasonable.

Defendant Morrison was not justified in using deadly force on Michael by a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to himself.

New Job

Five months after the shooting, Morrison was hired by the Nelsonville Police Department, according to the Logan Daily News.

“I have no idea why Nelsonville would go (and) hire a Hocking College police officer (who) was just involved in a shooting and that resulted in someone’s death with a child in the car,” Whitmer’s wife, Chelsea Whitmer, told local media at the time.

“I have no idea what they were thinking.”

Nelsonville Police Chief Scott Fitch defended the hiring of Morrison at the time.

“I knew this was pending, but I’ve investigated a lot of officer-involved shootings in my career,” he told local media.

“And after reviewing all the videos, after reviewing the totality of the circumstances, it was my opinion that he did not violate any crime. So I offered him the job.”

But a judge disagreed with the chief after a criminal complaint was filed against Morrison in March 2022, convicting him within days, sparing him a jail sentence if he agreed to give up his law enforcement certification.

Chelsea Whitmer provided the following witness statement to the court, according to local media:

“I would like to address Cecil Morrison. The night you thoughtlessly, arrogantly and selfishly shot my husband (five) times in front of our (four-year-old) son haunts my children and (me), every single day. There are some days I can almost make it through without remembering what Michael looked like on that day.

Other days I almost make it through without hearing my son cry out, ‘HE shot my daddy, mommy! He’s dead!’ and it never fails that every day I am reminded of what you took from us. YOU took my best friend in this entire world, the man I just married, the memories and the life we planned on living. They’re all gone.

You took my kids’ hero. I hate you for that and I do want you and everyone else who thinks what you did was justifiable to feel some of our pain. To feel a piece of the hurt we carry around (every day).”

Chelsea Whitmer also told local media that she was “happy that I never have to worry that he’ll be on the streets again.”

But Morrison can still become a cop in another state if he obtains certification from that state, although it appears at this time he still lives in Ohio.

‘It’s Going to Ruin My Life’: California Woman Who Went Viral for Spewing Racial Slurs at Black Movers Asks Man She Berated to Delete Video

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 13:00

After screaming loudly in the middle of the street, angry that her driveway had been blocked by a delivery truck, a seemingly entitled Northern California woman ensured a level of infamy when she concluded her rant at two Black furniture movers with a racist taunt.

The video, shot in the wealthy suburb of Healdsburg, California, has been viewed nearly 2 million times and received more than 235,000 likes. The woman featured in the video has been named by several commenters, and while her identity hasn’t been confirmed, a person matching that name direct messaged the TikTok account holder and asked him to remove the clip.

Video screenshot captures a woman yelling. (Photo: TikTok/Jay Money)

“Was a point where she reached out to my partner, ‘Hey, take this video down, it’s going to ruin my life,’” one of the movers, Keonta Gilmer, told local station KRON. “Another follow-up with a cease and assist, like a demand. A poorly written one on top of that.”

Gilmer said the encounter was tense from the beginning.

“It was just constant ‘F-yous’ and then expletives and slurs. It started left and it stayed left,” Gilmer said.

“This is what we still face in 2025. Racism isn’t ‘over’ — it’s just behind screens now. #Exposed #StopRacism SayNoToHate”

In the 18-second clip, the woman confronts the movers, saying she can’t get out of her residence because of their moving truck. Gilmer said he had already told the woman they would move their vehicle, but she demanded instant satisfaction.

“I live here. I can’t get out of my f–king house,” she shrieks.

After telling the drivers to “f–k off,” she storms off like a petulant pre-teen.

Gilbert’s business partner responds, “I think a simple, ‘Can you move your truck, please?’ would’ve sufficed.”

“Stupid N-word,” she yells before getting into her car.

Gilbert’s associate laughs, pauses, and says, “Right. Glad I recorded that!”

No doubt the woman wishes he hadn’t.

Gilmer said he is disinclined to feel any sympathy for her.

“That being in your vernacular, like you said, for it to slip out so fast, it just shows it’s common for you,” he said. “It wasn’t a slip out, you didn’t feel bad for it. It didn’t take a lot out of you to say it.”

The consequences could be severe for the woman, who was initially thought to be a bartender at legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola’s winery.

She doesn’t work there anymore, wrote one commenter who pleaded with the online mob to stop calling Coppola’s, saying “it was wild today.”

When asked if the woman had been fired because of the video, the commenter replied she hadn’t worked there for years.

Whoever she is, the woman is about to find out TikTok is relentless and typically unforgiving.

“Let’s make her popular. TikTok, do your thing,” wrote one subscriber.

“Ashamed of Nothing. Offended by Everything. Contributes Nothing. Entitled to Everything,” wrote another commenter — a sentiment widely shared by other viewers.

One man predicted how the story would unfold from here.

“Cue the that’s not who I am’ apology,” he wrote.

‘What in the Hell is Going on with His Face’: Simon Cowell’s Drastic Appearance Change Has ‘American Idol’ Fans Doing a Double Take

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 01:14

It’s not abnormal for someone’s appearance to change as they get older, but Simon Cowell’s facial features don’t look like they’re natural, according to fans who checked one of his recent social media posts.

Cowell posted a video to Instagram on May 31 ahead of the season 18 finale of “Britain’s Got Talent.” Cowell, who is a judge on the show, shared a message to his followers and potential viewers of the competition series.

“Hello, it’s Simon,” he said as he held the phone up. “We’re live from Hammersmith, minutes before the final.” Dressed up in his black suit and white dress shirt, Cowell continued, “I am really, really excited, I haven’t got a clue who’s going to win, but that’s good. Hope you enjoy the show, thanks for watching, everyone, and take care. Bye-bye.”

“It’s the @bgt final! Enjoy the show and thank you for watching! Love, Simon x,” he wrote in the caption.

For some fans, Cowell didn’t seem to fully look like himself, with some raising the possibility he was using filters.

A gossip site reshared the video in a post where people commented about the 65-year-old’s looks.

One person asked, “What in the hell is going on with his face?”

Another observer wondered if artificial intelligence had something to do with why Cowell looked different. “Is it just me or does this look like Ai,” they wrote.

A third person said, “he’s been looking unrecognisable for a minute now.”

A fourth believed that there was nothing new about his appearance, “He’s looked like this for the last 5-10 years ngl.”

Someone else wrote, “He needs to be friends with Kris Jenner she’s got the connect for facelifts,” they said. Jenner is the matriarch of the family that includes her children Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner.

In the past few months, she’s gotten a lot of attention over her impressively rejuvenated face. It’s not confirmed if or what work she’s gotten done exactly, but many speculate that she may have gotten a facelift as they note to tightened skin. Even though she didn’t speak about it herself, People magazine recently reported that the doctor who worked on her was Dr. Steven Levine.

As for Cowell, the “American Idol” judge admitted over the years to getting some aesthetic enhancements. In 2018, he told The Sun that he got a Silhouette Soft Lift, which is a non-surgical procedure where thread is sewn into the face to fix sagging on the face and neck.

Fast-forward to 2022, and Cowell told the outlet he decided to stop the botox he was previously getting, after not recognizing his own self.

“There was a stage where I might have gone a bit too far. I saw a picture of me from ‘before’ the other day, and didn’t recognise it as me first of all,” he said. “Eric [his son] was in hysterics. Enough was enough. There is no filler in my face at all now. Zero.”

‘Don’t Fight the Police’: Pennsylvania Cop on Desk Duty After He Tases Black Man on the Ground, Then Punch Him Twice In the Face During Traffic Stop Arrest Captured on Video

Mon, 06/02/2025 - 20:30

An investigation is underway into a police officer at the center of a video posted to social media that’s sparked outrage in one Pennsylvania town after he was seen punching a Black man multiple times before taking him into custody.

The cellphone video captured the arrest of 42-year-old Wayne Vick during a traffic stop on May 27 in Chester, Pennsylvania.

The footage shows Vick lying on the ground while a cop tasers him and yells, “Keep your f—ing hands behind your back!”

Video shows a Chester, Pennsylvania police officer punching Wayne Vick. (Photo: Facebook/Too Conscious)

As Vick cries out from the shock of the Taser, the cop kneels over him and tries to force one of his arms behind his back. When the cop struggles to pull his arm behind his back, he punches Vick twice on the side of his face.

In court documents cited by WPVI, the officer stated that he stopped Vick’s car because it had tinted front windows. Vick pulled over, but then fled his car on foot, prompting the officer to deploy his Taser after a brief chase.

The officer said he deployed his Taser three more times while Vick was on the ground, but that Vick refused to put his hands behind his back and started reaching for his waistband. That’s when the cop struck him in the face.

In the video, backup arrives after the cop cuffs Vick. As onlookers in the background start speaking to police, the cop who cuffed Vick tells one woman, “Don’t fight the police, ma’am. It’ll happen every time.”

When the woman asks the cop why he hit Vick, he answers, “Because he was fighting.” One bystander challenges the response, saying Vick “was on the ground, already tased.”

Chester Police identified the arresting officer as Michael Brodzinski, who has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the traffic stop. The agency said it’s also reviewing all available evidence and body-worn footage to ensure a “thorough and impartial review.”

“We acknowledge that a portion of the incident has been widely shared online; however, it is important to emphasize that the video circulating on social media does not capture the full context. Additional video evidence, including complete footage from Officer Brodzinski’s body-worn camera, documents the encounter from initiation to conclusion,” the department wrote on Facebook.

Vick was taken into custody and was charged with manufacture/delivery or possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance by a person not registered, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest or other law enforcement, evading arrest or detention on foot and improper sun screening.

His bail was set at $20,000, which he was unable to post, Delco Times reported. He remains at a county prison until his preliminary hearing on June 10.

“What we saw in that video is deeply concerning, and the public deserves answers. I have formally requested that the Delaware County District Attorney undertake an independent investigation of this serious matter, and the Chester Police Department is committed to fully cooperating throughout that process,” Mayor Stefan Roots said. “We are committed to the truth, to justice, and to ensuring that our police department reflects the values of our community—accountability, professionalism, and respect for every individual while upholding its duty to protect.”

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said his office “will review all of the evidence, compare it to the law, make a finding, and then report back to me and the commissioner of police.”

‘He Remembers His First Divorce’: Fans Think Jeff Bezos Is ‘Trying to Get Out’ of Lauren Sánchez Engagement as Prenup Rumors Swirl Years After His $38B Divorce to MacKenzie

Mon, 06/02/2025 - 19:51

The chatter of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding being one of, if not the most, extravagant events of the year is heating up. It is widely speculated that the couple is set to exchange vows in Italy sometime this summer, though neither party has confirmed the numerous reports.

But online banter about the guest list and destination are not the only topics of curiosity, so is the pair’s prenuptial agreement. Amazon co-founder Bezos is the world’s third-wealthiest man, with an estimated worth of $220 billion.

Sánchez, a former journalist, is estimated to have a net worth of $30 million. The duo has been dating since 2019 — the same year they divorced their respective spouses, MacKenzie Scott and Patrick Whitesell — and became engaged in 2023.

Salacious news headlines about their impending wedding ceremony suggest an agreement to protect the business magnate’s extensive investment portfolio, companies, and real estate likely took months to hash out.

“This type of prenup can be challenging because of the need for complete and total disclosure,” family law specialist and attorney Alphonse Provinziano told Hello! Magazine.

Social media users, however, have different theories about the paperwork that delayed Bezos’ alleged desire to wed his longtime partner last summer. One tweet read, “I think he’s trying to get out of that engagement. Look at her.” A second poster on X wrote, “They’re both cheaters so it’s to be expected they’ll both cheat in the future.”

And a third individual remarked, “That’s a no brainer. I bet he remembers his first divorce. If you are going to be a second wife, you should expect it in the times we are in.  If you’re really in love, prove it by signing it and staying married. I would have signed a prenup just to stay out of family court!”

Bezos’ settlement to his ex-wife of 25 years and mother of his four kids was a 4 percent stake, or $38.3 billion, in the company she helped him build. He and MacKenzie did not have a prenup in place when they tied the knot.

Many believe that to be the same case with him and Lauren, the latter of whom has three children from previous relationships.

In October 2024, an anonymous source told Daily Mail, “Jeff is so crazy about her that he would get married tomorrow if he could, but I hear that they are still sorting out a prenup. His lawyers won’t let him move ahead without it.”

The former “Good Day LA” host held her bachelorette party in May. Weeks earlier she and an all-women crew hovered miles above Earth in Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket.

‘Absolutely Bonkers:’ Sen. Joni Ernst Issues Cringe-Worthy, Sarcastic Apology from a Cemetery Over ‘We’re All Going to Die’ Remark

Mon, 06/02/2025 - 18:00

Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst is facing more backlash after issuing a cringeworthy non-apology on social media over remarks she made at a raucous town hall meeting Friday. When a voter expressed concern that Republicans’ Medicaid cuts would kill people, Ernst bleakly told the jeering crowd, “We’re all going to die.”

The criticism was fast and furious. The remark made national headlines, and widespread condemnation quickly followed. In trying to defend the callous comments, Ernst’s communications team quickly blamed the “hysteria that’s out there coming from the left.” Her office also accused Democrats of inciting fear among voters over the House’s proposed budget cuts.

Then on Saturday, a day after the town hall, the Iowa senator issued a weird, sarcastic apology from a cemetery.

“Hello, everyone. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize for a statement that I made yesterday at my town hall,” she began in the video she posted to Instagram.

“See, I was in the process of answering a question that had been asked by an audience member when a woman who was extremely distraught screamed out from the back corner of the auditorium, ‘People are going to die.’”

Ernst’s next remarks are a headscratcher. “I made an incorrect assumption that everyone in the auditorium understood that yes, we are all going to perish from this earth,” she said.

“So, I apologize, and I’m really, really glad that I did not have to bring up the subject of the tooth fairy as well. But for those that would like to see eternal and everlasting life, I encourage you to embrace my lord and savior, Jesus Christ,” she concluded.

Reaction to Ernst’s defensive and strange apology included Democratic Wisconsin Rep. Mark Pocan, who said, “Maybe the only thing worse than lying about no one having their Medicaid cut is making fun of people dying from a bill.”

Instagram user Greg Valerie said, “Iowa, you are so much better than Ernst … Send her a clear message that she doesn’t speak for Iowa.”

“Telling people ‘we’re all going to die’ in response to Medicaid cuts & then doing a video quoting Jesus is stunning. Jesus healed the sick. He didn’t cut their care,” California congressman Ro Khanna said on the social media platform X.

And independent journalist Aaron Rupar, who has more than 971,000 followers on X, wrote: “Absolutely bonkers—Joni Ernst doubles down on her ‘we are all gonna die’ defense of Medicaid cuts while walking through a cemetery.”

House Republicans passed a budget measure last month, which is now under consideration in the Senate, that makes major cuts to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. The Trump administration and Republican lawmakers have said the reforms are supposed to prevent people who are in the United States illegally from receiving federal aid and to root out fraud.

While some estimates have put the number of undocumented migrants receiving federal aid at just under one and a half million people, the National Immigration Law Center says they’re generally ineligible for most federal public assistance, including food stamps, or SNAP, and Medicaid.

However, the Economic Policy Innovation Center, a conservative think tank, says 60 percent of non-citizen households use at least one welfare program. The center estimates these households are receiving more than $5,600 in annual federal benefits.

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that almost 14 million Americans could lose their health insurance within 10 years under the House Republicans’ cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.

‘This Is So Targeted and Intentional’: New U.S. Military Grooming Policy Is ‘Racist,’ Singles Out Black Servicemembers, Critics Say

Mon, 06/02/2025 - 17:10

Several branches of the United States military have changed their policies governing pseudofolliculitis barbae, or PFB, a painful skin condition more commonly known as razor bumps or ingrown hairs, which affects more Black men than any other group.

Now critics accuse the military of targeting Black men with the condition, even as past studies have shown those with medical waivers allowing them to have short beards were already lagging behind in promotions compared to their non-waivered counterparts.

In March, the U.S. Marine Corps issued new guidance on its shaving waivers that could result in the expulsion of service members with a recurring condition of PFB. The Air Force and Space Force also updated their guidance on grooming waivers in January.

All men in the military are required to have a clean shave unless they receive a medical waiver.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a review of physical fitness and grooming standards, leading to the shaving waiver rollback in March.

The new Marine Corps guidance requires medical evaluations of service members with PFB within 90 days, NBC News reported. If they continue to suffer from PFB within a year of undergoing a four-part treatment plan, their commanding officer can initiate a separation plan. The Air Force’s new guidance says shaving waivers will only last 90 days after an airman’s annual medical evaluation.

“This is so targeted and intentional,” Chris Adigun, a North Carolina-based board-certified dermatologist, told NBC News. “Razor bumps can affect only the way hair follicles appear and do not affect the body systemically in any way.”

That’s because the way hair grows is determined by genetics, not by any particular way a person shaves or any other extraneous conditions. Razor bumps do not impact how a military member performs their job.

“On its face, it’s a racist policy, because this is a condition that impacts African Americans and other people of color predominantly just by the nature of hair growth on the face,” another dermatologist told NBC.

Some see these changes as part of the federal government’s ongoing effort at dismantling diversity, equity and inclusion policies. Black service members make up 18 percent of all active-duty Marines, according to the Marine Corp Gazette.

“It’s mostly soldiers of color who are impacted by this,” Air Force veteran Ed Anderson told NBC News. “I don’t see this as a productive and effective means of retaining and recruiting troops.”

The American Osteopathic College of Dermatology says razor bumps resulting from shaving affect 60 percent of African-American men and other people with curly hair. The condition can cause severe and painful scarring. The AOCD says letting the beard grow is a 100 percent effective treatment for PFB.

And the U.S. military agreed, at least for a time. Starting in 1970, it allowed beards for those suffering certain medical conditions, such as PFB. And the shaving waivers were a game changer for these members, but policies have changed over the years across the different branches

The possible dismissal of service members over PFB is a “dramatic” change, Indiana-based board-certified dermatologist Dara Spearman told NBC.

“Given the historic interactions between Black Americans and organizations with regard to grooming habits and requirements, it seems there may be other factors at play than whether a gas mask fits,” Spearman said.
