‘Supposed to be Protecting Us’: LAPD Cop Accused of Driving Drunk, Killing Teen, and Leaving Him to Die. Prosecutors Say He Fled to His Girlfriend’s to Hide Instead of Calling for Help

Wed, 06/25/2025 - 16:00

A Los Angeles cop faces charges after allegedly hitting a man while he was driving drunk, then fleeing the scene to his girlfriend’s home and leaving the victim to die in the street.

Carlos Gonzalo Coronel, 40, was charged with multiple felonies, including DUI causing great bodily injury and hit and run with permanent injury or death.

According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the deadly collision happened at 3:41 a.m. on Feb. 1 in Tustin, California.

Prosecutors say that Coronel got behind the wheel of his pickup truck early that morning to head to his girlfriend’s house after a night of drinking with his brother-in-law.

While he was driving, Coronel allegedly struck 19-year-old Imanol Salvador Gonzalez, who was walking in the street near an intersection.

According to prosecutors, Coronel didn’t stop to see what he hit or call 911 to report the crash, even though his truck sustained significant front-end damage. He only continued driving to his girlfriend’s home.

Just minutes after the crash, two people who were on their way home from work found Gonzalez’s body lying in the middle of the road and called police.

When Coronel got to his girlfriend’s home, she ended up driving him to his home, but prosecutors say he instructed her to avoid the road where the fatal collision took place.

The DA’s office added that he later drove past the crime scene where police were investigating without stopping to inform them he had been involved in a crash at that same location.

Coronel’s internet search history also revealed that he tried to look up articles online to check if news outlets reported a fatal hit-and-run on the road where he’s accused of hitting Gonzalez.

Coronel was arrested a day after the crash after investigators found debris from his truck at the scene. Police determined the suspect vehicle was a black 2021 Chevrolet Silverado and discovered Coronel was the registered owner.

Gonzalez’s family called for justice after the cop was booked into jail.

“He’s supposed to be protecting us, protecting the people, not killing,” Gonzalez’s father, Rodeo Calba, told KABC in February.

Friends of the family set up a GoFundMe to raise money for Gonzalez’s funeral expenses.

“His life was tragically cut short at the tender age of 19 years old by a hit-and-run vehicle,” the page reads. “His family is devastated and is going through a lot of financial and emotional hardship.”

Coronel is a sergeant with the Los Angeles Police Department.

When asked about his charges, LAPD told McClatchy News, “We do not tolerate misconduct of any kind, and any violations of department policies or the public trust are taken seriously.”

If Coronel is convicted on all counts, he could face up to nearly seven years in prison.

“Our law enforcement officers are entrusted with the highest level of public trust, and it is unconscionable that an officer who swore an oath to protect and serve would leave a man to die in the street after hitting him while driving under the influence of alcohol,” said Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer. “Imanol was loved by his family, and he did not deserve to have his story end lying in the middle of a dark Tustin street alone while the police officer who hit him drove away because his self-preservation was more important than a human life.”

In 2011, Coronel was charged with misdemeanor DUI after he was involved in another hit-and-run. He pleaded no contest. He was called back to court earlier this year to answer for a probation violation in that case after failing to pay fines and complete his community service.

‘Is He a Friend of the Family?’: Kevin Costner’s Inner Circle Accused of Interfering in Ex-Wife’s New Relationship One Year After Divorce Deal

Wed, 06/25/2025 - 15:58

Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner’s two teenage kids may be all the former lovebirds share two years after their separation. They are parents to sons Cayden, 18, and Hayes, 16, and daughter Grace, 15. The pair had been married for 18 years when they finalized their divorce in February 2024.

Baumgartner, 51, quickly found love again in, friend of the family and former neighbor Josh Conor. The fashion designer filed to end the marriage to Costner in April 2023, citing irreconcilable differences.

Rumors of Baumgartner’s romance with the financier surfaced amid her divorce proceedings from the actor, 70.

She and Conor’s engagement was revealed in January 2025. She has reportedly been eyeing a luxury wedding also in Hawaii, and the guest list is expected to be small, limiting invites to family and close pals.

“Kevin’s true friends immediately cut off Christine and Josh and would never attend their wedding, even if invited. Their loyalty to Kevin is solid,” a purported insider told the Daily Mail. The exes agreed to share joint custody of their children, and that Costner would pay $63,000 in monthly child support, despite her seeking $175,000 per month.

The individual continued, “In the end, Christine walked away with much less than she expected, receiving a $1.6 million settlement and reduced child support. Kevin is just happy that she has found someone who can support her expensive lifestyle because she wouldn’t be able to afford this wedding on her own.”

A reaction to the latest of Costner and Baumgartner’s divorce fallout read, “Well at least if he comes around – he will be around for this marriage instead of his own when he had her – neglence leads to loneliness. Stay away Kev you’re out.”

Costner’s absence while filming is said to have challenged any semblance of work-life balance.

“At times, his career has taken precedence over his home life,” a source told People in May 2023. The individual claimed Costner knew his second wife was “unhappy” as he began working on “Horizon: An American Saga.” Filming reportedly played a role in his departure from the successful series “Yellowstone” last summer.

A few others were still stuck on the idea of Cosnter’s ex-wife marrying someone who was considered a famy friend.

“Is he friend of the family? The one she went to Hawaii with after the split?” said one person. Another replied, “Yes he is the “friend” she went to Hawaii with. Prior to that he was Costner’s friend. Costner was betrayed by his friend and his wife.”

Two months after she filed for divorce, Baumgartner and Conor were spotted in July 2023 in Hawaii, according to People magazine. But fans warned her, “Hope she remembers that how you get em is how you lose em.”

Baumgartner and Cosnter attended their son Cayden’s high school graduation this month but allegedly did not interact.

Prior to his 18-year marriage to Baumgartner, “The Bodyguard” star was married to first wife Cindy Silva for 16 years. The parents of three kids — Annie, Lily and Joe — settled their divorce for a reported $80 million in 1994. Costner is also a dad to son Liam, whom he shares with ex Bridget Rooney.

‘Watch Your… Mouth!’: North Carolina White Man Fired After Video Shows Him Yelling At Black Female Cyclist During Profane-laced Rant While Wearing Work Shirt

Wed, 06/25/2025 - 15:15

Before deciding to act like a menacing jerk, screaming and threatening a woman for no apparent reason, you might want to consider how popular she is on social media.

@faith_irv_rides, who has 11,000-plus followers on Instagram and TikTok, shared the jarring incident late last week, posting video of a white man in a pickup truck pulling up alongside her as she cycled alone on a rural North Carolina highway.

“I’m just letting you know one person has gotten f—ing killed on this road riding a bike,” the irate man screamed from the cab of his pickup. “When these trucks come around and hit you and kill you …”

A video screenshot shows a North Carolina man yelling at a woman from his truck. (Photos: TikTok/Faith_irv_rides)

“Well, drive better, motherf—er!” she yells as he drives off. He screeches to a stop, backs up, and warns her, “Watch your f—ing mouth! I’m trying to save your life. I’m telling you, you’re going to get hit.”

@faith_irv_rides tries to explain to him that she has a radar that alerts her to approaching traffic, but he’s too caught up in his rage to listen.

She said she was going to let the incident go until she heard from a woman who had a similar incident with the same man in the same truck, “except she was in a car and he threatened to blow her brains out.”

On Monday, she announced that online sleuths had tracked the man down (it helped that he was wearing his work shirt at the time).

“I now know who the man is who was that was driving the truck I also since found out he no longer works for A and R,” the cycling enthusiast disclosed on her Instagram account. “Once the company owner found out about his behavior, he decided to let him go last Friday. So, it’s really a shame he’s getting backlash because this guy decided to wear his work shirt while losing his crap on the side of the road.”

She wrote that, despite the truck driver’s claims, no one had died recently on the road they were traveling.

“He was also not ‘helping’ me, especially since my radar said he was coming and he started blaring his horn before he even got to me, passed me crazy close and never slowed until he stopped,” she said. “First, thing he yelled was I shouldn’t be on the road. After I told him I was there legally is when he started reversing. Crazy!”

Her followers were also suspicious that he was just trying to help.

“If he was genuinely worried he wouldn’t have been so aggressive,” wrote one.

“All though I despise cyclists taking up the entire road I firmly believe this dude is wrong for cussing you out,” added another. “Id hate to see how he treats his wife.”

@faith_irv_rides said she has reconsidered her decision not to involve law enforcement after the other woman reached out with details of her harrowing encounter with the same driver.

“I’m probably going to go ahead and take this to police so they can see what kind of behavior he has,” she said.

According to WRAL, the man in the video, Ronald Currin, was wearing a shirt from A&R Enterprises, a septic system service company based in Angier, North Carolina. The owner also said Currin was on his personal time and in his own personal truck.

‘For All the Years of Holding Me Down’: Steve Harvey Calls Wife Marjorie His ‘Ride or Die’ In Anniversary Post Two Years After Shutting Down Cheating Rumors

Wed, 06/25/2025 - 14:00

After years of cheating speculation and rumored trouble in their marriage, Steve Harvey and his wife Marjorie still appear to be madly in love.

On June 24, the Harveys celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary by sharing tributes on Instagram. Each of their posts featured a montage of clips sequenced differently but still captured the same moment.

They each share a video that begins with the couple walking hand-in-hand out of a building as they smile and head to their vehicle. Once they arrive, Marjorie notices a large bouquet of red roses in the car and she turns to kiss Steve before they both get in.

The stylish pair were seen wearing Louis Vitton on the way to the Paris Fashion week Men’s Spring/Summer 2026 on June 25, 2025 in Paris, Franco.

Steve chose for his attire a classic black blazer that had a hint of texture from the lapels that were embellished with black beads. He also wore black slacks, black shoes and a white dress shirt underneath that was left untucked.

Marjorie, a former stylist and designer, wore a feathered gray gown with cutouts on each side that extended around her stomach and waist. A high slit on her right thigh allowed her to show off her legs and her skin-toned pumps.

She also posted her own message to Steve under her video.

“18 years, A lifetime to go. Happy Anniversary My Love,” Marjorie wrote in the caption of her video, which she set to Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s 2013 duet “Part II (On The Run),” a song often seen as an ode to enduring love through ups and downs.

In his caption, Steve wrote, “To my Ride or Die @marjorie_harvey … my best friend thank you for all the years of holding me down #Number18.” He paired the message with Bad Bunny’s “La Mudanza” — a track about moving on and starting fresh, which some fans found to be an unusual choice for an anniversary post.

Marjorie wrote back his comments, “Always baby.”

Fans online joined in on the Harvey’s celebration in their comment section and even applauded them for overcoming the alleged previous drama in their marriage.

One person on Marjorie’s page said, “@iamsteveharveytv I so happy y’all didn’t let them haters mess up your beautiful precious marriage.”

Another wrote, “Show all the haters! I love it. It’s too funny.”

A third added, “Happy to see that you guys are keeping it alive and well.”

But the comments were a tad different in Steve’s post, “I thought she cheated?” one person asked, to which another replied, “That’s what I thought but I guess we ain’t caught up.”

Steve Harvey denies rumors that his wife Marjorie Harvey cheated on him with a bodyguard and personal chef:

“We fine. I don’t know what y’all doing, but find something else to do because we fine… I ain’t got no time for rumors and gossip.” pic.twitter.com/Z9fNU3Cjna

— Pop Crave (@PopCrave) August 27, 2023

For the past couple of years, Steve and Marjorie have been dealing with allegations of infidelity in their marriage. Over that period both started posting each other less and less, adding fuel to the fire.

In 2023, there was a claim made that Marjorie had cheated on “The Family Feud” host with his chef and a personal bodyguard, in addition to unsubstantiated rumors that Marjorie was seeking $400 million in a divorce settlement.

However, there is no exact trail that points to how the allegations began, nor is there any evidence to support them.

Marjorie once clapped back in August 2023, by posting an article from Matt McMillen Ministries titled “How to Handle Being Lied About.”

Addressing the hearsay head on, she wrote, “My husband and I don’t usually stop to address all the foolishness and lies that have been spread about us. However, to whom much is given much is required. I understand that with my platform comes some sort of responsibility to those that may not be as strong as we are. Read and share this with your loved ones that may not know how to properly cope. God Bless all of you.”

That same year, Steve also shared some words on the matter at an event at InvestFest.

“Before I get started,” he said on stage to the crowd. “just let me say I’m fine. Marjorie’s fine. I don’t know what y’all doing, but find something else to do, ’cause we fine. Lord have mercy. I sure wish I could cuss, though. Sometimes you just wanna respond.”

Steve also can’t seem to shake the rumors that he was an adulterer in his previous marriages and Marjorie was his mistress. The “Kings of Comedy” star was married to Marcia Harvey from 1981 to 1994 and Mary Shackelford from 1996 to 2005. Despite the longstanding gossip that Marjorie was the third wheel in both marriages, Steve has maintained that they did not get romantically involved until after his divorce from his second wife was finalized.

He initially met Marjorie at a comedy club in 1990 but says they didn’t reconnect until 2005 and one day after he finalized his divorce from Mary.

During their 18-year marriage, the couple did not have children together but raised a blended family of seven — four from Steve’s previous marriages and three from Marjorie’s past relationships with ex-husbands Jim Townsend and Donnell Woods. Notably, this marks the third marriage for both Steve and Marjorie.

‘I’m Embarrassed I Told People to Vote for Him’: Candace Owens Accuses Donald Trump of Bowing to Israel, Calls Him a ‘Chronic Disappointment’

Wed, 06/25/2025 - 13:12

It looks like the honeymoon is over. Conservative political commentator Candace Owens, a longtime supporter of President Donald Trump, now says she’s “embarrassed” she voted for him. Owens made that comment during an interview with Piers Morgan on Tuesday.

The author and activist, also known for promoting conspiracy theories, is upset over Trump’s handling of the war between Israel and Iran and over the president’s support for Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza.

“This is not the candidate that I voted for,” she told Morgan on his YouTube show “Piers Morgan Uncensored.”

“He’s been a chronic disappointment,” Owens said. “And I feel embarrassed that I told people to go vote for him because this wasn’t going to happen, and it is happening.”

Trump’s MAGA base has splintered in recent days over Trump’s handling of the Israel-Iran conflict, with die-hard loyalists like Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon, and Marjorie Taylor-Greene, to name just a few, publicly chastising Trump for dragging the United States into another foreign war.

— Breaking911 (@Breaking911) June 25, 2025

Now Owens has hopped on the bandwagon.

“It’s all of the same rhetoric dating back to 9/11. All of the same tactic trying to smear people who are against this war as ‘jihadists,’” she said, adding that the war between Iran and Israel is “simply not our business.”

“There was no imminent threat to the United States when Trump made this decision to do what Bibi wanted,” she said, referring to Israel’s prime minister. “This was not Trump’s decision it was Bibi Netanyahu’s decision. And that is the reason that he did it. We’re very aware that Israel is dictating our foreign policy, and we’d now like that to stop.”

Owens also called Israel “a terrorist state” as she and Morgan talked about Israel’s war in Gaza.

“Israel has been a terrorist state,” Owens said. “Israel right now is imparting a genocide and a holocaust on the Gazan people. So I’m really over this idea that somehow Israel has the moral high-ground and we have to get behind them.”

“If you’re going to call Iranians terrorists, if they right now had an open concentration camp where they were mass killing their own people, we would all be saying this is ridiculous,” Owens told Morgan.

“So it’s rich to me that people are concerned about Iran having nukes, but I’m concerned about Israel, who won’t even admit that they have nukes while at the same time they are executing a genocide and a holocaust in Gaza that the world is watching,” she added.

Owens received solid support from some social media users. “I love this brave human lady,” wrote an X user.

“Candace Owens a beacon of light in a world going dark. She signs brighter and brighter as she goes on,” another user posted on X.

Just over a week ago, Israel launched an unprecedented military strike on Iran, claiming Tehran was within days of having a nuclear weapon. Iran quickly retaliated, firing ballistic missiles at Israel. Trump, insisting that Iran was building a nuclear bomb, despite what his own intelligence officials were telling him, ordered a U.S. military attack Saturday on three Iranian nuclear sites.

Then Monday, the president proclaimed he had brokered a ceasefire between the two warring nations, but the bombings continued, with each side blaming the other for not honoring the truce. Trump then demanded in a profane-laden rant to reporters that Israel and Iran abide by the deal. A shaky ceasefire is now in place.

Israel has also been systemically destroying the Gaza Strip since the terrorist group Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people. The Gaza Health Ministry says more than 55,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war started, many of them women and children.

‘Sending Money to Strangers Is a Big No-No’: Mom of Billie Eilish Fan Loses Hundreds in Ticket Scam While Trying to Make Her Daughters Dreams Come True

Wed, 06/25/2025 - 11:30

When Billie Eilish announced her tour dates, a New York City mother knew she had to get tickets for her daughters.

Sadia Brangan was willing to spend hundreds of dollars to make her girls’ dream of seeing their favorite pop star come true. What seemed like a straightforward online purchase would end up costing her far more than the ticket price, leaving her family with an expensive lesson about the dangers of social media scams.

According to CBS News, Brangan initially attempted to secure tickets through trusted platforms like Ticketmaster, but came up empty-handed as demand far exceeded supply.

Her daughters, however, discovered what appeared to be a golden opportunity scrolling through TikTok. A video featured a young woman dancing with text overlay declaring “I’m selling 3 tickets for Billie Eilish,” and everything about the interaction seemed legitimate to the unsuspecting family.

The transaction began smoothly enough, with a Brangan daughter reaching out to the seller through direct message.

However, the first red flag emerged when Brangan suggested using American Express for the purchase, citing the credit card company’s robust fraud protection policies. The seller quickly shut down that option, insisting on Apple Cash instead. Despite her initial hesitation, Brangan proceeded with the digital payment method, sending $380 to one email address and an additional $125 to another.

The situation deteriorated rapidly when the seller suddenly demanded additional money before releasing any tickets. When the family requested a refund, the seller’s response was callously dismissive: “Go and get your lawyer.”

CBS News New York’s attempts to contact the individual to ask about the tickets resulted in immediate blocking, the publication stated.

The story sparked heated debate when it aired, with CBS News New York’s YouTube viewers weighing in with vastly different perspectives.

“Yeah…I don’t feel bad for her. You gotta be smarter than that,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “Sometimes, lessons need to be learned.”

The criticism continued with remarks like “Stop tryna by cheap discounted tickets and buy from the actual app or sites.”

A more compassionate person said, “I feel soooo bad for her. But sending $$ to strangers is a big no-no.”

The Brangan family’s experience reflects a troubling trend affecting fans worldwide.

According to Venue Today, legitimate tickets for Billie Eilish’s 2025 tour were available to the general public on Thursday, May 22, at noon through Ticketmaster, with various presales beginning May 20.

The official channels provided multiple legitimate opportunities for fans, including American Express cardholder presales and verified fan presales, despite the scammy sites and contacts offering cheaper tickets.

Cybersecurity experts have noted a surge in concert-related fraud, with NordVPN reporting that scammers are “rubbing their hands in glee” over high-demand tours. The company warns of sophisticated tactics, including fake presale websites, too-good-to-be-true pricing, and fraudulent social media promotions that mimic official accounts.

The issue extends far beyond American borders.

In Australia, Billie Eilish fans have faced their own ticket nightmares, with accounts being hacked and tickets stolen from legitimate purchasers, Yahoo! Finance Australia reported.

The outlet described how Ella Mander-Jones discovered her $230 Sydney ticket had vanished when hackers changed her account details and sold her tickets on Ticketek’s marketplace. Meanwhile, Emily Lord spent $1,600 on Brisbane tickets only to discover they’d been fraudulently transferred when she arrived at the venue.

The Brisbane incident particularly demonstrates the emotional toll of these scams. Lord, who described herself as the “biggest Billie Eilish fan in Australia,” had saved every penny for the concert experience, only to watch her tickets scan red at the entrance.

TikTok eventually removed the original scam video for violating platform guidelines, but for Brangan, the damage was already done. She’s out $505 with no tickets to show for it, and her daughters never got to see their idol perform. Now she’s speaking out with one simple warning for other parents: “She’s going to get more money out of other girls.”

‘Incessant Gaslighting’: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt Slammed After Claiming Trump Invented Military Doctrine That Dates Back to Ancient Rome and George Washington

Wed, 06/25/2025 - 10:00

In what may be the most audacious rewrite of history since the invention of alternative facts, the Trump White House now wants you to believe that “peace through strength” — a centuries-old military doctrine dating back to ancient Rome and George Washington — was cooked up by none other than President Donald Trump.

Appearing on “Fox & Friends” this week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took her trademark praise for Trump into a new stratosphere of sycophancy. Asked by host Brian Kilmeade about Trump’s decision to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities over the weekend — against the advice of MAGA darlings Steve Bannon and Marjorie Taylor Greene — Leavitt responded by handing Trump the keys to a concept older than the United States itself.

“Nobody knows what it means to accomplish peace through strength better than President Trump,” Leavitt declared. “He is the one who came up with that motto and that foreign policy doctrine and he successfully implemented it in his first term.”

A viral 2023 photo of Karoline Leavitt at a basketball game has sparked social media buzz over her dramatic transformation since becoming White House Press Secretary. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)

Take a moment to recover from that.

Not only did Trump not invent “peace through strength,” he is at the tail end of a long parade of leaders who invoked it — starting with Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century. Hadrian’s “peace through strength, or failing that, peace through threat” guided Rome at its peak, enforced with fortified borders, military readiness, and even a massive wall. Sound familiar?

From Hadrian, the doctrine jumped centuries and continents to land in the speeches of George Washington. In 1793, Washington urged that “if we desire to secure peace… it must be known that we are at all times ready for war.” Alexander Hamilton echoed the sentiment in “Federalist No. 24.” The principle kept marching forward into the 20th century, finding its most iconic American messenger in President Ronald Reagan.

Reagan practically branded the phrase in his 1980 campaign and presidency, even embedding it into military iconography. It adorns the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier and anchors an entire wing of the Reagan Presidential Library.

In 1986, Reagan said: “We know that peace is the condition under which mankind was meant to flourish… George Washington’s words may seem hard and cold today, but history has proven him right again and again.”

Reagan’s “Peace Through Strength” was more than a soundbite. It underpinned military expansion, the Strategic Defense Initiative, and U.S. strategy against the Soviet Union.

But now, Republicans are going around saying Trump invented it.

Critics say that’s not just historically illiterate, but cosmically absurd, and called Leavitt out personally to say as much.

“Peace through strength is working great. Ceasefire didn’t even last 2 hours. Yet all you corrupt press secretaries only care about bragging and propaganda. It’s all a game to you guys. Worst Press Sec ever!” a verified user wrote on Leavitt’s thread.

“Dear Karoline, I have been so inspired by your straightforwardness and clarity, but, with all due respect, we can no longer trust Trump. Every decision he is currently making is not serving America,” another person said on a separate post by Leavitt, which included a video of her telling the press corps to “trust in Trump.”

Others posted cartoon memes of Trump angrily clamoring for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Despite the preposterousness of the notion that Trump coined “Peace Through Strength”, it hasn’t stopped Republicans from polishing Trump’s image until it shines like a golden idol. The White House put out a statement Sunday reviving the slogan, backed by a dizzying 135 quotes from GOP lawmakers slobbering over Trump’s “bold, decisive action” against Iran’s nuclear program.

The quotes read like a telethon where every caller wants to outdo the last in gushing loyalty.

“President Trump made the right call,” beamed Speaker Mike Johnson.

“I trust President Trump!” barked Sen. Jim Banks.

“@realDonaldTrump knows peace can only be achieved through strength,” tweeted Sen. Marsha Blackburn, adding the requisite “victory” emoji.

Sen. Tim Scott also chimed in: “Decisive American leadership. Americans and the world can thank President Trump for his courage to lead.”

We won’t force you to slog through the other 132 posts from the bootlicking contest on Capitol Hill.

Previously, the White House even trotted out a March 4 statement headlined “President Trump is Leading with Peace Through Strength,” complete with a laundry list of his international moves: hostage negotiations, sanctions, drone strikes, missile shield planning, and vaguely defined “maximum pressure.”

In MAGA world, these are not foreign policy actions—they’re mythmaking material.

In Trump’s version of history, Ronald Reagan is just a warm-up act, George Washington is a footnote, and Hadrian was just practicing for the main event: Trump’s second term in office.

Critics said the whole episode reeked of fealty masquerading as foreign policy. Republicans didn’t just applaud Trump’s strike on Iran — they worked overtime, throwing bouquets at the president, though it remains unclear what repercussions might be felt as a result.

“Peace through strength” is how empires baptize domination. Real peace is not declared — it is built, sustained, and shared,” wrote one verified user.

Others told Leavitt to stop the “incessant gaslighting.”

“You have zero understanding of geopolitics Karoline,” critics echoed.

‘Every Time Gordon Ramsay Touches a Restaurant, They Go Out of Business’: Gordon Ramsay Blamed as Michigan Restaurant Shutters After TV Spotlight

Wed, 06/25/2025 - 00:21

When celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s “Secret Service” production crew rolls into town restaurant owners usually hope for a miraculous turnaround. But for Firenze Restaurant & Pizzeria in Warren, Michigan, the celebrity treatment might have been the curtain call. The beloved Italian eatery that had served its community for more than six decades permanently shuttered its doors on June 21, just weeks after Ramsay filmed episodes of his Fox Network show at the establishment.

The closure marks the end of an era for a restaurant that first opened its doors on July 10, 1964, when Maria and Pasquale Rocca launched their dream of bringing authentic Italian flavors to suburban Detroit, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Firenze, which recently had been closed for remodeling, reopened in this month with fanfare about a new menu and promises that customers would be impressed by new offerings, complete with kitchen and dining room improvements.

However, according to Macomb Daily, the move left patrons surprised and disappointed as staple menu items such as fish and chips were demoted to weekly specials, while fan favorites like salads and the beloved bread accompaniment were axed altogether.

The community’s reaction has been swift and emotional, with many pointing fingers at what some are calling the “Ramsay curse.”

“Everytime Gordon Ramsey touches a restaurant they go out of business. Why is no one questioning him?” one frustrated commenter wrote on the Detroit Free Press Facebook page.

The sentiment reflects a growing concern among food enthusiasts who’ve noticed a pattern of restaurant closures following appearances on Ramsay’s various shows.

The concern isn’t unfounded — Firenze wasn’t the only establishment to face challenges after Ramsay’s involvement. Boodles in nearby Madison Heights, Michigan, also reportedly received the celebrity chef treatment and was similarly closed during the same period.

The ripple effects extend even further, as demonstrated by a recent case in Arizona where Caffe Boa in Tempe was bombarded with negative reviews intended for a different restaurant with the same name in nearby Ahwatukee that had appeared on Ramsay’s show, the Daily Mail reported.

The innocent Tempe establishment found itself fighting to protect its reputation from misdirected online hate meant for its struggling counterpart.

At Firenze, Frank Rocca, son of the original owners, confirmed the permanent closure to local media, sharing a photo of the sign posted on Firenze’s door. His family’s legacy spanned eight different ownership groups over the decades, with the restaurant eventually landing in the hands of current owners Lewis and Renee Dutton through their company LGD III Holdings, Inc.

The transition wasn’t always smooth, as longtime patrons noticed changes in quality and atmosphere over the years.

The speculation surrounding the closure has generated intense debate online. “If I had to guess, the new owners intended on closing and selling once Ramsay and crew did their renovations to maximize sale profits,” suggested one observer.

However, not everyone is ready to blame the celebrity chef.

“Its funny how people are blaming Ramsey for this. If the restaurant was good before, they wouldn’t have needed his help. I for one can’t wait to see the episode to find out the truth,” countered another commenter, highlighting the complex reality that restaurants featured on rescue shows are typically already in serious trouble.

Firenze wasn’t just any neighborhood spot — it was a cultural institution known for its steamed-in-the-oven ribs, homemade ravioli, cannoli, and nostalgic “old school paneling” that transported diners to a different era.

Generations of Warren families had made it their gathering place, with many adults returning to share childhood memories with their own children. The restaurant’s name, Italian for Florence, honored the Rocca family’s heritage and represented their commitment to authentic cuisine.

The closure has particularly stung longtime customers who witnessed the restaurant’s evolution through different ownership periods.

“Once the Rocca’s sold it, it started going down hill. They had big shoes to fill,” reflected one patron on Scanner of Warren’s Facebook post, capturing the sentiment that some establishments lose their soul when founding families step away.

The broader implications extend beyond Warren’s dining scene. Firenze represents a troubling trend where classic, family-owned establishments struggle to survive in an increasingly fast-paced food landscape.

As one thoughtful observer noted, “When dining becomes fast food and taste is replaced by efficiency, classics like Firenze’s will eventually become history.”

‘He Had True Potential When He Was a Kid’: Jaden Smith’s Behavior in Paris Raises Eyebrows as Will and Jada’s ‘Terrible’ Parenting Comes Under Fire

Tue, 06/24/2025 - 22:15

Jaden Smith’s recent appearance in Paris is bringing some controversy to him and his high-profile family.

On June 23, the 26-year-old actor and artist and an unidentified male were captured on camera in the City of Light as they sat on a park bench next to a device for smoking and a lighter, though they were not pictured using them.

The clips show Jaden wearing baggy light-colored jeans, a white shirt, a yellow jacket and a red fitted cap. His friend wore a black shirt, black pants and a black hat. One shot shows the two in the park at 3 a.m., and another show the pair walking toward some unknown destination.

In a video shared by Hollywood Fix, Jaden and this pal of his were recorded listening to music while sitting on the bench.

Jaden appeared to rock his head back and forth to the beat while his friend sat still, only moving to yawn and check his phone a couple of times.

Jaden, who’s frequently seen in Paris, was just spotted in the same city last week sharing the stage with his infamous father Will Smith.

“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star has been getting back in his music bag after 20 years of not dropping new music. He released his first album since 2005 in March, “Based On A True Story.”

During his June 15 performance in the U.K. at the Capital’s Summertime Ball in London, Will called on Jaden to join him onstage to greet the audience at Wembley Stadium, where the father and son duo embraced before Will continued performing.

Speculation about Jaden’s behavior is nothing new, as he’s often drawn attention for his eccentric style of dress and past public drama with his ex-girlfriend, Sab Zada, who has accused him of cheating.

Now the sight of him in Paris has internet scolds looking at his father and his mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, as responsible for his behavior.

The Daily Mail’s post about Jaden’s Paris park appearance led the tabloid’s readers to issue some pointed comments.

One person said, “Great parenting, Will and Jada. Not.”

Another commented, “Can you blame him having the parents he’s got,” while a third bluntly stated, “Will and Jada really messed those kids up!”

Jaden has been in the entertainment industry since his adolescent days appearing alongside his dad in box office hits, “The Pursuit of Happyness,” and “The Day the Earth Stood Still.”

“He had true potential when he was a kid and a young actor,” said a fourth person. “He should’ve kept going with that. Now he acts like a wannabe who is trying to find their identity.”

Another critique wrote, “Jada and her free parenting ways did a STAND UP job with those kids. And Will was just a puppet. Thank god son #1 had a different mom.”

From their nearly 28-year-old marriage, Will and Jada share their two children, Jaden and their daughter Willow, 24, together. Will welcomed his eldest son Trey, 32, with his ex-wife Sheree Zampino.

The “Emancipation” actor recently took accountability for the way he and Jada chose to parent their children and warned people not to mimic their methods.

Will spoke candidly about this subject during a June 13 episode on the U.K. radio show “Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden.”

“We made a very, very, very terrible mistake with our children and we went with radical honesty. Don’t do it,” he said as the room erupted in laughter. “I’m not advocating for it.”

“We made a deal like from really young with our kids. The deal was if you tell the truth, you won’t get in trouble,” Smith continued. “The only way you can get in trouble in this house is if we find out you did something and you don’t tell the truth. And it’s a mistake. It’s terrible because they do whatever they want and they just come tell you.”

Laughing, he continued, “It’s awful. Don’t try it. You want your kids to lie. You definitely — you don’t want to know some of the stuff your kids are thinking and doing.”

‘They Need Mercy’: Prosecutors Offer Shocking Plea Deals to Parents of 7-Year-Old North Carolina Boy Killed By Car While Crossing the Street Unsupervised

Tue, 06/24/2025 - 22:00

The parents of a young boy who was killed by a car while crossing the street without adult supervision have accepted plea deals that dismissed their initial charges connected to their son’s death and reduced their punishments.

Jessica Ivey and Samuele Jenkins were initially charged with involuntary manslaughter and child neglect after their 7-year-old son, Legend, was struck and killed by a car on May 27 in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Authorities say the parents let Legend and his 10-year-old brother walk home alone from a Subway restaurant. Ivey was at a neighboring Food Lion and gave them permission to walk home, which was two blocks away. Prosecutors said Jenkins had given the two permission to go to the Subway. When the boys tried crossing a busy street outside of the crosswalk, the younger one was hit by an SUV.

The 76-year-old driver who struck the child was not charged.

Ivey and Jenkins were booked into jail two days after the boy’s death. Their bond was initially set at $1.5 million, but it was later reduced to $150,000.

Their story drew national attention and prompted intense debate over whether the parents are to blame and if their case amounted to negligence. Numerous comments were left on the Gastonia Police Department’s Facebook page. Some people believed authorities went too far by charging the parents, arguing there’s no wrongdoing in allowing children to walk near their homes unsupervised when they did the same thing as kids. Some people blamed the city, stating that the road young Legend crossed was dangerous and needs speed bumps and other traffic measures to ensure pedestrian safety.

In a jailhouse interview, both parents said their arrests were sudden and gave them no time to grieve the loss of their son.

“I’m suffering in my sleep — when I can sleep. I dream about Legend. I wake up, and I’m in here. It’s been about three weeks, and I still have not gotten to really mourn,” Jenkins said. “I have not grieved. You’d think they’d at least wait until after we buried our child,” Jenkins said.

“It’s always been my worst fear to lose all my children, and now I lost my baby, and then I got thrown right in jail,” Ivey said. “It’s real hard. We haven’t gotten to experience life without him, not really, being in here. I miss him, I miss my husband, I miss my other children.”

Both parents were offered plea bargains.

Jenkins pleaded guilty to felony child abuse with serious injury. He was sentenced to 19-32 months in jail, but it was suspended, according to WBTV. He’ll have to spend 36 months under supervised probation.

Ivey pleaded guilty to negligent child abuse and will have to serve supervised probation for 30 months. Her jail sentence of 10 to 21 months was suspended.

Parents must pay court and attorney fees and take parenting classes as part of their plea bargains.

In court, defense attorneys noted that neither parent has been able to properly mourn Legend while in jail. The couple has been together for 10 years, married for one, and have six remaining children together. Ivey is currently pregnant with another child.

The district attorney stated that in the face of such a tragic death, the parents need mercy and a community to support them in this tough time.

“My heart is broken for a young boy that will grow up without a brother, a motorist that will never forget the sounds and images of a horrible accident, and, candidly, for parents dealing with the unimaginable loss of a son,” District Attorney Travis Page said, per WCNC. “There is no prison or punishment worse than a parent living with the knowledge their decision-making and their actions caused the harm of their own child. These parents do not deserve prison — they need mercy, they need grace, and they need a community to support them and other struggling parents in hopes that a tragedy such as this will never happen again.”

‘Ever Notice How She Is Never With Her Husband Anymore?’: Michelle Obama’s Family Vacation with Daughters Has Fans Asking ‘Where’s Dad?’ as Barack Divorce Rumors Swirl

Tue, 06/24/2025 - 20:18

Michelle Obama, 61, was seen vacationing in Spain with her daughters, 26-year-old Malia and 24-year-old Sasha, but one person was noticeably missing: her husband, former President Barack Obama.

Photos of the former first lady and the girls wearing dresses while dining at the Lobster Club in Mallorca landed on the internet this week. They dined with longtime family friend Michael Smith, the Obamas’ longtime interior designer, and his partner, James Costos, former U.S. ambassador to Spain.

Barack’s absence from the European getaway didn’t go unnoticed, with social media users quick to point out that the former president was nowhere to be seen alongside Michelle and their daughters.

One Page Six reader questioned Michelle and Obama’s relationship by asking, “Ever notice how she is never with her husband anymore? Why’s that?”

Another judgmental person commented, “Michelle is ageing badly. While Barack is becoming quite handsome as his years pass. No wonder he prefers to keep his distance.”

However, there were many supporters of the Obamas on Instagram.

“Beautiful family. I miss the Obamas and how sane the world was with them,” a third backer of Barack and Michelle declared amid political turmoil in America and military conflicts abroad.

“Where’s Dad???” one person on Instagram wondered in response to pictures of Michelle dining with her daughters. A second person joked, “Barack wasn’t invited!”

Another claimed, “We all know what’s going on Michelle, so to me very boring.”

Speculation about the state of the Obamas’ marriage intensified in January 2025 after Barack, 63, attended President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Donald Trump’s second inauguration without Michelle.

After media figures like former “The View” host Meghan McCain claimed the Obamas were separated, Michelle denied the divorce rumors during an appearance on Sophia Bush’s “Work in Progress” podcast.

“We as women struggle with disappointing people. So much so that this year, people couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself. That they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing,” Michelle stated.

The best-selling author continued, “This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions herself, right? But that’s what society does to us.” She added, “And if it doesn’t fit into the sort of stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labeled as something negative and horrible.”

Despite constant, unsubstantiated whispers of an imminent split, Michelle and Barack put on a united front for Sasha’s 24th birthday on June 10. Both parents posted loving messages on their respective Instagram pages to celebrate the occasion.

“Happy birthday to my sweet girl, Sasha! Can’t believe how quickly time has flown. I’m so proud of the woman you’ve become. Love you always!” Michelle captioned a photo of the four family members together.

Barack shared the same picture alongside an Instagram caption that read, “Happy birthday, Sasha! Watching you grow into the incredible woman you are has been a true gift. I’ll always be proud of you and will always be here for you.”

Additionally, Michelle uploaded a throwback pic of the Obama foursome for Father’s Day. On June 15, she expressed being “grateful” for Barack being there for her and their daughters, “even when it felt like the weight of the world was on his shoulders.”

Michelle initially met Barack in 1989 when the future couple were both working at the Sidley & Austin law firm in Chicago. They later wed in October 1992. Malia was born in July 1998, and Sasha arrived in June 2001.

Barack was elected as the first black president in 2008 and re-elected in 2012. The Obamas’ post-political life included the pair launching Higher Ground Productions, which has produced content such as the “Rustin” film, the “Starting 5” television series, and the “American Factory” documentary.

Since leaving the White House in 2016, Michelle has been more open about the struggles of being married to the former leader of the free world. She admitted there were times during her husband’s presidency when she felt he “wasn’t doing enough” as a father.

“You’re gonna look up, and the girls will be gone. Because there is a little window, that parents don’t understand time, when your children even want to be bothered with you,” Michelle recalled telling Barack on the Father’s Day episode of her “IMO” podcast.

‘Leaving an Honest Man to Die’: Two North Carolina Troopers Fired from Jobs After Officials Learn They Lied and Mishandled Investigation Into Deadly Crash That Killed Black Driver

Tue, 06/24/2025 - 19:55

Two North Carolina state troopers who authorities say lied and mishandled an investigation into a deadly crash that killed a Black driver have been fired from their jobs.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) terminated Sgt. Matthew Morrison and Trooper Garrett Macario from their positions on June 16, according to local news outlets.

They had been on administrative leave since January after authorities started looking into discrepancies that surfaced in an investigation into the death of 31-year-old Tyrone Mason.

Mason died on Oct. 7, 2024, after his 2018 Chevrolet Malibu slammed into a concrete barrier.

Macario was the officer who called in the crash to local law enforcement. However, he never disclosed to responding officers that he had chased Mason just before he crashed into the barrier.

He initially only told his supervisor, Sgt. Morrison.

According to a North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) report cited by WTVD, he gave up the pursuit shortly before Mason lost control of the car and crashed. Morrison then advised Macario to deny any involvement and instead say that he had “rolled up on” the wreck.

Wake County District Lorrin Attorney Freeman began looking into the matter in December 2024. After reviewing dashcam and bodycam footage, she determined the troopers had lied to local police, violated NCSHP standards, and dropped charges in 180 pending DWI cases in which either Macario or Morrison was the arresting officer, citing issues with their “credibility.”

However, she didn’t go so far as to criminally charge the officers, stating that the evidence presented so far would not result in a successful prosecution, WRAL reported.

In response to news that both officers were fired from their jobs, Freeman released this statement:

“In dismissing Trooper Macario and Sgt. Morrison from the agency, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol has taken an important step in rebuilding trust with the community. The reputation of the State Highway Patrol for truth and integrity can only be preserved when dishonesty by law enforcement is not tolerated. I am grateful for the many members of the Patrol and its leadership which work daily with honor to protect all of us.”

Attorneys for Mason’s family members stated that while the troopers’ firings are a “clear step in the right direction,” it is also “only one step in a long journey towards justice for Ms. Mason, the rest of Tyrone’s family and the people of North Carolina.”

“Let’s understand that Trooper Macario not only initiated the unsafe chase that led to Tyrone Mason’s death, but that he also failed to render any aid leaving an honest man to die on the side of the road and then lied to try and cover it up,” the statement continued. “Let’s remember that the Raleigh Police Department participated in that lie telling a grieving mother that there was no pursuit even though they allegedly knew the truth. This is one step in our journey towards justice.”

‘Go Ahead and Try Impeaching Me, Again, MAKE MY DAY!’: Congressman Al Green Answers Donald Trump’s Dirty Harry Threat with Article of Impeachment But Other Dems Shut It Down

Tue, 06/24/2025 - 19:24

Congressman Al Green filed articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump on Tuesday, “for high crimes and misdemeanors,” three days after Trump ordered a military strike on Iran’s nuclear sites.

The House then quickly voted to kill the resolution in a 344-79 vote with the help of 128 Democrats, according to Politico.

The resolution accused Trump of “abuse of presidential powers by disregarding the separation of powers—devolving American democracy into authoritarianism by unconstitutionally usurping Congress’s power to declare war.”

“H.R. 537 has been filed because I believe that the President of the United States has committed an impeachable act,” the Texas Democrat announced from the floor of the House, adding that the resolution addresses the abuse of presidential powers.

Then, on Monday, the President proclaimed he had brokered a ceasefire between the two warring nations, but the bombings continued, with each side blaming the other for not honoring the truce. Trump then demanded in a profane-laden rant to reporters that Israel and Iran abide by the deal. A shaky ceasefire is now in place.

“In starting his illegal and unconstitutional war with Iran without the constitutionally-mandated consent of Congress or appropriate notice to Congress, President Trump acted in direct violation of the War Powers Clause of the Constitution,” Green said in the impeachment resolution.

Other Democrats agree with Green and have also called for Trump’s impeachment. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez traded insults with the president online Tuesday, contending his bombings in Iran are grounds for removing him from office. Trump, as usual, called her names in a post on his Truth Social platform and dared her and her colleagues in Congress to try to impeach him.

Mr. President, don’t take your anger out on me – I’m just a silly girl.

Take it out on whoever convinced you to betray the American people and our Constitution by illegally bombing Iran and dragging us into war.

It only took you 5 months to break almost every promise you made. https://t.co/77YSWUj2dc

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) June 24, 2025

“She and her Democrat friends have just hit the Lowest Poll Numbers in Congressional History, so go ahead and try Impeaching me, again, MAKE MY DAY!” Trump taunted, using a line out of actor-director Clint Eastwood’s “Dirty Harry” movies. Trump has also called the New York congresswoman “a silly girl” in prior posts.

Ocasio-Cortez fired back at Trump in her own post Tuesday.

“Mr. President, don’t take your anger out on me – I’m just a silly girl,” she said on X.

“Take it out on whoever convinced you to betray the American people and our Constitution by illegally bombing Iran and dragging us into war. It only took you 5 months to break almost every promise you made.”

Ocasio-Cortez and Green have both been fierce critics of Trump and his administration. And Green has filed articles of impeachment against Trump many times before, including last month, according to The Hill.

“I did not come to Congress to be a bystander while a president abuses power and devolves American democracy into authoritarianism with himself as an authoritarian president. President Trump’s unauthorized bombing of Iran constitutes a de facto declaration of war,” Green wrote in a statement Tuesday. “No president has the right to drag this nation into war without the authorization of the people’s representatives.”

He also called Trump’s “authoritarian actions” a “warning sign” and said he’s a “threat to democracy.”

A White House spokesperson defended Trump’s attack on Iran, calling it a “peace through strength” strategy, The Hill also reported.

‘They’re Joking Right?’: Trump Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize By Friend and Georgia Congressman for Brokering Shaky Ceasefire Between Iran and Israel

Tue, 06/24/2025 - 18:31

President Donald Trump has been officially nominated for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for his role in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

Congressman Buddy Carter, a Trump supporter, nominated the president a day after Trump announced the deal, even though neither Israel nor Iran abided by it, at least initially.

“I just nominated @realDonaldTrump for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his historic role in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran and preventing the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet,” the Georgia Republican announced on social media Tuesday.

Carter also wrote to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee contending Trump had an “extraordinary and historic role” in ending “the armed conflict between Israel and Iran,” according to Fox News.

“President Trump’s influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible,” Carter, who is not related to fellow Georgian and former President Jimmy Carter, continued.

I just nominated @realDonaldTrump for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his historic role in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran and preventing the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet.…

— Buddy Carter (@RepBuddyCarter) June 24, 2025

“President Trump also took bold, decisive actions to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions and ensure that the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism remains incapable of acquiring nuclear weapons,” he added.

Just over a week ago, Israel launched a military strike on Iran, contending Tehran was just days away from having a nuclear weapon. Iran quickly retaliated, firing ballistic missiles at Israel. Trump got the U.S. involved when he ordered an attack Saturday on three Iranian nuclear sites.

Then, on Monday, the president proclaimed he had brokered a ceasefire between the two warring nations, but the bombings continued, causing an angry Trump to have a meltdown Tuesday morning on his way to a NATO summit in Europe, using profanity, he demanded both sides stop the airstrikes and abide by the truce. Iran and Israel both blamed each other for breaking the ceasefire. Whether the deal holds remains uncertain.

Carter’s stunning move comes after Pakistan also formally recommended Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize on Tuesday afternoon, crediting his “decisive diplomatic intervention” during the deadliest flare-up between Pakistan and India in over 50 years.

The Pakistani government praised Trump’s “pivotal leadership” in brokering a fragile ceasefire in May, after a wave of cross-border strikes left dozens dead and raised fears of a nuclear confrontation between the longtime regional adversaries. The U.S.-mediated truce, reached on May 8, was announced just hours after a final round of deadly strikes tore through the disputed Kashmir region — a flashpoint both nations claim in full. However, less than 24 hours later, Pakistan condemned the U.S. for its attack on Iran, adding that the strikes “constituted a serious violation of international law” and the statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Associated Press reported.

Trump supporters and his MAGA base are cheering him on on social media and think a Nobel Peace Prize for the President is long overdue.

“Nobody on planet Earth deserves the Nobel Peace prize more than the 47th President of the United States of America, Donald J Trump! The President of Peace!”

“Trump might’ve saved millions of lives by making the decision to take out Iran Nuclear program To nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize is pretty cool.”

Others, though, are questioning the timing of the nomination and how much Trump actually played a role in Israel’s initial attack on Iran, wondering whether he, in fact, gave Israel the green light to strike.

So Trump lied that there was an imminent threat from Iran.

He lied that the US strikes completely destroyed the nuclear sites.

He lied that there was a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel.

Now they're saying he should get the Nobel Peace Prize.

They're joking right?

— Devin Duke (@sirDukeDevin) June 24, 2025

“Seems like a movie script to me. Almost like this was all planned well in advance.”

An Instagram user summed it up this way: “Creates problem. Solves problem. Receives Nobel Peace Prize. Makes sense.”

Florida Law Student Claimed ‘We the People’ Only Applied to Whites and Got Top Marks from Trump-Appointed Judge — Now He’s Suspended and Internship Offer Gone: ‘Significant Mistrust’

Tue, 06/24/2025 - 16:49

University of Florida law student Preston Damsky holds an ideology most would dismiss as beyond the fringe.

In a term paper for a fall semester class on “originalism” — the legal theory interpreting the Constitution’s original meaning favored by most conservative jurists — the 29-year-old California native and self-proclaimed white nationalist didn’t hold back on his racist, transgressive beliefs.

The phrase, “We the People,” refers only to whites, Damsky argued. Non-white citizens, therefore, are not entitled to voting rights protections. He advocated that border agents be ordered to “shoot-to-kill … criminal infiltrators at the border,” The New York Times reported.

Florida Judge John L. Badalamenti (left) faces backlash for giving law student who said Constitution is only for whites top honors. (Credit: FLCourts.gov/Getty)

White people, he wrote, will be committing a “terrible crime” if they allow a nonwhite majority, which the U.S. Census Bureau predicts will occur around 2045,” to commit this demographic assault on their sovereignty.”

For this, he received the “book award” designating him as the best student in the class. Trump-appointed U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida Judge John L. Badalamenti, who taught the class, has not explained why he chose Damsky for the coveted prize.

It was a controversial decision. Students and faculty alike wondered how someone professing those beliefs could receive such an honor. The interim dean of the University of Florida Law School, Merritt McAlister, cited Damsky’s free speech rights, adding professors should not engage in “viewpoint discrimination.”

Then, in March, Damsky inflamed the turmoil by posting on his X account that Jews must be “abolished by any means necessary.” He was suspended by the university, which, according to Hillel International, has the largest number of Jewish undergraduate students in the country. Emails obtained by university officials revealed numerous students feared for their safety.

Damsky was banned from campus and faces possible expulsion but is challenging the punishment. He claims he was unfairly targeted because of his ideas, telling the Times, “I’m not, like, a psychopathic ax murderer.”

But in the same interview, Damsky said calling him a Nazi “would not be manifestly wrong”

His ideology was shaped by white nationalist authors like Sam Francis and Richard Lynn, he told The Times, and he began thinking about becoming a prosecutor after observing district attorneys in cities including Los Angeles and San Francisco adopt policies that he believed were soft on crime.

Even before he won the “book award,” Damsky and his views were well-known around campus. Carliss Chatman, an associate law professor at Southern Methodist University and visiting scholar at the University of Florida, said several Black and Jewish students had expressed their concerns to her.

Chatman noted the changing political climate in Florida has played a major role in the debate over what viewpoints are acceptable. She had proposed teaching a class called “Race, Entrepreneurship and Inequality” but administrators insisted she change the name to “Entrepreneurship” before listing it in the course catalogue.

The Trump administration’s assault on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and “wokeness” has established an alarming dichotomy.

“I just find it fascinating that this student can write an article, a series of articles that are essentially manifestoes, and that’s free speech,” said Chatman, “but my class can’t be called ‘Race, Entrepreneurship and Inequality.’”

Awarding a prestigious academic award to Damsky “emboldened” him to begin posting a series of antisemitic screeds on social media earlier this year, she said.

The Times article has ignited a debate on social media over academic freedom and free speech.

“I’ve given lots of excellent grades to papers where I didn’t agree with the findings but their research and arguments were logically sound,” one professor posted on X. “That’s how it’s supposed to work you don’t grade on your opinion of the conclusion but did they argue it well.”

I’ve given lots of excellent grades to papers where I didn’t agree with the findings but their research and arguments were logically sound. That’s how it’s supposed to work you don’t grade on your opinion of the conclusion but did they argue it well.

— Rachel Jamison (@RachelPAV) June 21, 2025

“So, let me see if I understand this,” countered one commenter. “If someone makes a paper about raping 13 years old girls, and it is well argumented, you would grade it outstanding even if you don’t agree with the ideas proposed in the document?”

Chatman said Damsky’s paper was “anti-intellectual” and doesn’t measure up, by any academic standard.

“We fought a whole Civil War that freed slaves and said ‘We The People’ now means everyone,” she said.

The uproar has also put the federal judge who lauded Damsky’s work under the microscope. Badalamenti, who sits on the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, has won praise from both liberals and conservatives, according to The Times. He considers Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, who is Black, a mentor who helped him through “difficult times and continues to be a tremendous friend and source of positivity,” Badalamenti told Reason.

For what it’s worth, Damsky said Badalamenti “is not a white nationalist.”

“Don’t get me wrong,” he added. “I would prefer it if he was.”

Damsky has suffered some consequences for his toxic opinions. Before he was suspended, he was offered a summer internship in the prosecutor’s office for the Eighth Judicial Circuit of Florida. But that officer has since been rescinded by Brian Kramer, the state attorney for the Eighth Judicial Circuit of Florida.

Employing someone like Damsky who “espouses those kinds of beliefs would cause significant mistrust in the fairness of prosecutions,” Kramer said.

But critics of Damsky and Badalamenti have also paid a price.

A former classmate told The Times his job offer from a large law firm was withdrawn after he told them he had spoken to the paper and was critical of Damsky and their professor.

Live Cop Show Captured Maryland Police Arresting a Black Man Who Didn’t Match the Suspect’s Description — Even Witnesses Tried to Intervene But Were Ignored, Lawsuit Claims

Tue, 06/24/2025 - 16:00

A Black man who was arrested on live TV is suing the city of Frederick, Maryland, its police officers and the company that produces the reality cop show series “On Patrol: Live,” claiming he was falsely arrested for robbery and portrayed in a false light on the show, damaging his reputation.

Kairi Myrick was standing outside his apartment building in a low-income neighborhood of Frederick on July 13, 2024 when three police officers, trailed by a production crew, abruptly accosted and arrested him without probable cause, his lawsuit filed in March in federal court in Maryland and obtained by Atlanta Black Star claims.

The police were looking for a man suspected of robbing a man on a nearby train platform, the complaint says. The victim, who was “visibly intoxicated,” had earlier told police on camera that a man with a gun took his wallet, removed $60 in cash and ran off. He told them to look out for two Black male suspects, one wearing a white tank top and one wearing a gray tank top, both wearing shorts and with crew cuts.

Myrick was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans and had dreadlocks, the lawsuit says.

Additionally, a man who was outside at the time told police that Myrick had only just exited his home.

In the episode, police are shown searching Myrick’s bag and pulling out another bag of what is described as marijuana. Myrick admitted to police that he had the drug while he was detained, reported the Frederick News Post.

He was charged with felony robbery, theft and possession with intent to distribute marijuana, said his attorney, Ike Emejuru. The charges were later dropped and he was released.

His entire arrest was livestreamed and seen by thousands of residents in the greater Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland areas, was featured in season 3, episode 2 of “On Patrol: Live,” and remains live and “public for the world to see” on the TV network REELZ via the streaming service Peacock, the lawsuit says.

Myrick is suing Officers Irvin Solano, Nicholas Hurley and Kevin Long for false arrest and false imprisonment, alleging they knew he didn’t match the description and was not the robbery suspect identified by the victim and still knowingly arrested him without probable cause, in violation of the Fourth Amendment and Maryland law.

His arrest on live TV “falsely exposed Myrick to ridicule, embarrassment, scorn and criminalization from members of his own community and to the entire world,” the lawsuit claims. He was “mocked by viewers” and referred to as a criminal on Facebook, the complaint says, citing samples of such posts, including one that said, “They found the person that robbed the drunk guy.”

His lawsuit also alleges that the city of Frederick, which is liable for the conduct of its employees, and the production company acted in concert and recklessly “exposed to publicity in a false light that Myrick was a criminal,” causing him to suffer from emotional distress, embarrassment and ridicule to the point that he “sought treatment.”

He seeks a jury trial to determine nominal, compensatory and punitive damages, including back pay and front pay, future benefits, and legal costs.

On June 16, defendant Half Moon Pictures, LLC, which produces “On Patrol: Live” filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that Myrick’s claims are “meritless.”

The production company argues that Maryland law “protects fair and accurate media reporting on government operations and actions,” and that what its crew members filmed during its ride-a-long with police was “a truthful depiction of Myrick’s arrest.”

While Myrick disputes that he was not guilty of the crimes he was arrested for, Half Moon, “a neutral third party documenting law enforcement activity … never stated he was guilty and instead explained during the telecast that Myrick maintained his innocence.”

Half Moon further asserts that the First Amendment shields the company from civil liability “when truthful constitutional speech is at issue. … Myrick cannot recover damages from the television production company that merely recorded his public arrest and aired that unedited footage to a television audience.”

The fact that Myrick “disagrees with the conclusions that third parties on social media drew after watching the show does not mean that Half Moon’s telecast was false,” the motion further argues.

The city of Frederick has not yet filed a response to the lawsuit.

The Frederick Police Department’s public information officer, Samantha Long, said in an emailed statement to Atlanta Black Star that the department does not comment on pending or potential litigation as a matter of policy.

“We remain committed to transparency and accountability and will continue to share information with the public when it is appropriate and legally permissible to do so,” she said.

A city spokesperson issued a statement last year that the department was originally scheduled to be part of the live cops-on-patrol show for eight weeks, but ended its involvement two weeks early “after internal discussions.”

“We had a positive experience working with the production team and appreciated the opportunity to give the community a window into our officers’ day-to-day work,” the statement said, adding, “it was time to move on.”

‘Never Worked a Day In Counter-Terrorism:’ 22-Year-Old ‘Former Lawn Boy’ Trump Put In Charge of Terrorism Prevention at DHS Facing New Backlash After Iran Attack

Tue, 06/24/2025 - 13:30

The 22-year-old former gardener and grocery store assistant, President Donald Trump, put in charge of counterterrorism at the Department of Homeland Security, is facing a backlash as fears over possible retaliation by Iran grow.

According to a report by the Daily Beast, Thomas Fugate, a big fan of the president, had only worked as a neighborhood lawn boy and at an H-E-B grocery store in Austin, Texas, before Trump put him in charge of the Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships at DHS.

Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy is calling out Trump over the appointment.

“As our nation girds for possible Iranian terrorist attacks, this is the person Trump put in charge of terrorism prevention,” Murphy wrote on the social media platform X.

“22 years old. Recent work experience: landscaping/grocery clerk. Never worked a day in counter-terrorism. But he’s a BIG Trump fan. So he got the job,” the Democrat added.

An investigation by Pro Publica earlier this month revealed Fugate had shockingly little experience, let alone the background to lead the unit known as CP3. He wrote on his LinkedIn page that he spent several months performing “lawn care work around my neighborhood,” and that he also worked part-time at an H-E-B supermarket as a clerk.

With no national security experience and just a year out of college, Americans are worried about Fugate’s ability to handle the job.

“Leadership in national security and terrorism prevention is incredibly complex. It requires a deep understanding that often comes with years of dedicated service and expertise, something that is lacking in the White House,” a concerned social media user posted on Instagram.

“God help us…,” another Instagram user posted.

Trump supporters are defending the head-scratching decision to put Fugate into such a high profile role.

“As long as he is competent & successful at his job it doesn’t matter,” wrote one X user.

“To be honest sometimes we need younger folk in these positions — besides anything they are probably good at video games, which means they will be good at doing things IRL — I think this was a very good choice and support this decision fully to place this man in the role,” another Trump supporter said.

This X user disagreed. “Literally any cop off the street in America is more qualified than this clown, whose ‘leadership experience’ on LinkedIn was summarized by his role in leading a mock United Nations club in high school.”

Officials are worried about possible Iranian sleeper cells in the United States following Trump’s decision to attack three nuclear sites in Iran over the weekend.

‘I’ll Run You Down’: Deranged Texas White Man Allegedly Tries to Mow Down Black Neighbor While Hurling Racial Slurs, ‘I Was Taken Aback’

Tue, 06/24/2025 - 13:00

A 64-year-old Texas man is facing felony charges for allegedly attempting to run his neighbor over with a car while shouting racial slurs.

Jesse Ruffer was charged with felony aggravated assault following an incident on June 16 in a west Houston neighborhood.

The victim, Blaine McShall, said he was walking down a street that day, and when he stepped off the sidewalk to avoid a puddle, Ruffer “swerved really close” to him.

McShall, a Marine veteran, added that Ruffer also hurled racial slurs at him.

“What he said was, ‘If you want to walk in the street like a n—r, I’ll run you down like a n—r,'” McShall told KTRK. “And of course, that was surprising.”

McShall said nothing in return, only called the police afterward.

“I was just more taken aback by the fact that he actually said that after trying to literally run me over in a car,” McShall said. “I would just want him to know this is unacceptable.”

During Ruffer’s bond hearing, the prosecutor requested his bail be set at $51,000, accusing him of using his car as a deadly weapon and also citing a previous arrest warrant for a terroristic threat charge.

In 2022, Ruffer allegedly called his Arab neighbor a terrorist and threatened to kill both the neighbor and the man’s dog, KTRK reported. Court records obtained by ABC News revealed he was released on a general order bond in that case.

“This is indicative of his violent propensity,” prosecutor Christine Huang told the court.

Ruffer’s defense attorney requested a $15,000 bond.

The judge set Ruffer’s bond at $20,000 and ordered him to remain in the Houston area, not contact McShall, and stay at least 200 feet away from McShall’s home and workplace.

If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison.

‘Let Me Walk! Don’t Touch Me!’: Philly Cop Caught on Video Shoving and Tasering Black Man for Crossing the Street — Then Charging Him with Assault

Tue, 06/24/2025 - 12:00

A white Philadelphia cop walking in the middle of the street was caught on video escalating an interaction with a Black man by shoving and tasering him for standing in the crosswalk of the street, ordering him to get off the street.

However, the video shows the man appeared to be stepping toward the sidewalk when the cop began placing his hands on the Black man, shoving him.

“Don’t touch me!” the Black man repeatedly told the cop, facing off with him with his arms by his side. “Let me walk! Don’t touch me!”

The cop, who has been identified as Christopher O’Donnell, continued shoving the Black man, pulling out his Taser and firing it at him, even after the Black man was already on the sidewalk, forcing the Black man to walk onto the other street.

The cop continued shoving him in the middle of traffic in complete disregard for the safety of the Black man and himself.

The Black man has his arms raised to show he was not fighting back as several other cops joined the first cop to arrest him while multiple witnesses exclaimed, “He didn’t do nothing.”

“He just tased him for nothing,” said the man recording the video.

The Black man who has only been identified as “Daron” as of this writing was charged with assault on a police officer, according to his girlfriend, who posted the video on Instagram.

However, the video clearly shows it was the cop assaulting Daron.

“This is unacceptable and needs to be investigated!” wrote one commenter with the username, @_moreofmi, where she tagged the mayor, district attorney and the Philadelphia Police Department.

“This police officer has too much aggression built up to protect us.”

Watch the video below.

‘This Wasn’t Policing – This Was Harassment

The video was posted Friday to Instagram by a Black woman with the username @_callme_charlie, who is Daron’s girlfriend, explaining that the incident took place on Tuesday, June 17, resulting in Daron spending the night in jail before he was released the following day.

Atlanta Black Star reached out to her for an interview to obtain more details, but she has not yet responded.

However, she stated the following in the caption to the video:

@phillypolice — you need to hold Officer Christopher O’Donnell accountable. This man showed ZERO self-control, abused his power, and escalated a situation that never needed force.

A Black man who wasn’t under investigation, posed no threat, and knew his rights — was tased, physically antagonized, and falsely accused of assault by an officer clearly on a power trip.

You’re hiring suburban cops and dropping them into communities they don’t understand — and they respond with fear, force, and disrespect.

Let’s be real: wearing a badge doesn’t demand respect — your actions do. This officer used aggression, not de-escalation. This wasn’t policing — this was harassment.

Every Black man in Philly aren’t threats and doesn’t deserve to be treated like a criminal. Their fathers, sons, employees — who know their rights. Violating them can’t keep happening.

We need accountability. We need transparency. We need change.

City Officials Respond

One of the people commenting on the video was Kareem E. Thomas, chairman of the Philadelphia Commission of Human Relations, a city agency tasked to “enforce an important set of laws that prevent discrimination and promote equality,” according to the agency’s website.

I’m the Chair of the PHL Commission on Human Relations and I’ve tagged several Members of City Council. I will also ask the Commission to look into this and connect with the community. Can you DM me where this occurred and around what time?

Another commenter was Philadelphia City Councilman Kenyatta Johnson, who commented by saying, “Yeah this ain’t cool. I’m on it!”

However, even though the Philadelphia Police Department has been tagged several times, they still have not addressed the incident on their social media pages.

Meanwhile, outrage continues to grow on the internet as the video is shared on several different platforms.

“The fact that he still tased him after he already done pushed him on the sidewalk and out of the street is Insane!!!” said commenter @nay_msoctober.

“Once he was in the sidewalk the order was complete. So I’m lost on why he was tased,” said commenter @streetphoto215.

We will update this article as we receive new information.

‘Stay Far Away from This Family’: Donald Trump’s Youngest Son Barron’s New Romance Sparks Backlash Months After Secret Past with TikTok Star Exposed

Tue, 06/24/2025 - 11:30

Melania and Donald Trump’s only child, Barron Trump reportedly has a special lady in his life.

According to a nearly month-old report, while completing his freshman year at New York University, the 19-year-old son of the president, has gotten himself a girlfriend. NewsNation reported on Barron’s quietly kept love life back on May 30 with no identification of who the girl might be.

The outlet spoke to an anonymous source who allegedly identified themselves as a friend of Barron’s who also attends NYU. The person said, “Barron has a really nice girlfriend and hangs out with her a lot. He does have friends he just (unlike his father Donald Trump) screws the limelight.”

The source also described Barron to be an “apolitical” person who seemed to share more similarities with his mother, Melania Trump. They said, “Much more like his mother, Melania — he keeps his head down and gets on with it. He is not trying to be BMOC (big man on campus).”

Fans flooded the comments under Radar Online’s Instagram post about the news, sending warnings to the alleged girlfriend.

One person joked, “I’m sure she’s an immigrant. He has the same taste as his dad.”

Another wrote, “There’s got to be something wrong with Her,” while others warned, “One piece of advice for girlfriend stay far away from this family!”

One hopeful commentator said, “Let’s hope he treats women a little better than his biological Father – with RESPECT.”

Being the child of the president of the United States means unfortunately the world is going to get in your business whether you let them or not.

“Who cares leave the kid alone,” said one defender.

While Barron appears to do a decent job at keeping to himself to maintain some level of privacy, the lack of information on him leads to the spark and spread of rumors.

For instance, without any context or evidence, fans on X randomly started talking about WNBA star Caitlin Clark and Barron being romantically involved.

A person reposted a video on X of him shaking hands with former President Joe Biden and his Vice President Kamala Harris during his father’s second inauguration in January. On the clip, was the caption that reads, “DEMS BE WORRIED ABOUT DJT THEY NEED TO BE WORRIED ABOUT HIS CHILDREN THEY WILL NEVER FORGET HOW THEIR DAD WAS TREATED.”

Under that a fan randomly commented, “Barron Trump awesome our future president and Caitlin Clark would make an awesome first lady.”

Then in a separate post, a different X user wrote, “Is Caitlin Clark really dating Barron Trump!? Their kids will be 7 foot 6 real estate moguls that play basketball. WNBA.”

But that is unlikely, because Indiana Fever star has been dating her boyfriend Connor McCaffrey since April 2023. Like Clark, he shares a love for basketball and is currently part of the men’s basketball coaching staff at Butler University.

Another unverified rumor that gained traction came from a TikTok user named Maddie, who claimed Barron was her first boyfriend.

In 2020, she shared a video of her mouthing the words to a song called “Hatchback” by Cochise. On the video Maddie, wrote, “For those asking…I went to school with Barron Trump, and he was my first bf. When Trump was elected, he brought the entire class to the White House. We gotta save my bae!”

Then she provided picture proof of Barron and his class photographed with Donald and Melania in the Oval Office. She then pointed out two young kids that appeared to be her and Barron.

Maddie shared another zoomed-in photo that looked like a typical class picture. In it, she wore a pink and white striped shirt, standing next to a young Barron in a blue shirt with red writing that read, “The Best.” Both smiled directly at the camera for the image Maddie captioned, “Sorry gals he’s mine,” adding a wedding ring emoji after the text.

The video doesn’t exactly prove the two were dating and it’s not clear what year the photos was taken, but due to how young the children looked it would have been during Donald’s first term as president, when Barron became a White House resident as a 10-year-old.

None of these romance rumors have been confirmed by Barron Trump himself, but his father hinted at some details during a 2024 appearance on Patrick Bet-David’s “PBD Podcast.”

The 79-year-old said, “I don’t think he’s had a girlfriend yet,” and then added, “He doesn’t mind being alone, but he’s somebody that gets along with people.”
